...a party of 5 used my skin track follow me up Norse Peak and then deliberately transitioned 100' short of the summit so they could track it out before our party of 2.  When confronted their leader acted like he had every right because he had already done 5K' that day on summits further east and was heading back when he came across us undeserving pikers...

Did you really "confront" the "leader"? How? Good way to get your ass whupped...

I'm just imagining what I would do if someone "confronted" me in the woods about my skiing choices...

We have a backcountry house up here, owned by an acquaintance of mine, Caribou Mtn. Lodge. Great place, I highly recommend it....and the owner is a great guy. Lately, over the past few years, the place has gained some popularity with the BC skiing crowd from other parts of the NW, some apparently from big cities.

So I'm riding my snowmobile (I'm an avid skier, too) up near the lodge and this group skis out of the woods. The alpha male starts tooling on me about riding where they are skiing (which I wasn't). He got a little too close to me physically, while raising his voice, and I reflexively knocked him to the ground. He then backed off, but it left me with a really bad feeling. So backcountry "confrontations" kind of get my back up....esp. because that's not the way we do it up here.

Sounds like you had some volunteer stability testers. Did they really track out all the snow?

That is lame. At least I'll usually yell "Thank you" before I drop in to poach someone else's line.  8)
