Not to derail the conversation about renaming the Visitor Center (great idea!), but just thought I'd share a few other thoughts.
We went up to Paradise yesterday. The drive up was somber and reflective. Not a lot was said. Our thoughts were on park ranger Margaret Anderson, her family, the NPS family, and the tragic events that transpired on that road, in that beautiful place, a week ago.
A tribute and pictures are displayed at the Longmire Museum and at the Visitor Center. We stopped at the museum to pay our respects. One staff member at the museum pointed to her smiling picture on display (the one shown here), and then described what a wonderful person she was, and how she was the epitome of all a ranger and human being should be -- always smiling, always helpful, always concerned about others. A true professional, dedicated to service. I didn't know park ranger Anderson, but sure wish that I had. The world needs more people like her.
When we said, "we are so sorry for your loss," his reply was, "it's not just our loss, it's everybody's loss." And he's right.
He also said that ranger Anderson would want people to come back to the park, to enjoy its beauty, to have a good time. That's what she was all about. We thought about ranger Anderson a lot yesterday as we skied. It was a beautiful day, but also bittersweet. Our deepest condolences.

Not wishing to be obstructive, but I think that it would be very appropriate to rename Barn Flats to Margaret Anderson Flats and let the grateful public raise enough money to put a well constructed stone memorial dedicated to NPS Rangers with a special plaque commemorating Margaret Anderson and her bravery in protecting the public that lost her her life.

I think your idea is a good one Andrew. Especially, considering the murderer's name, it is almost likely Barn Flat could easily be misconstrued as a commemoration to him over time not the deserving Margaret, who I did not know personally but recall seeing on occasion.
