An Interesting Weekend I Would Not Care to Repeat

I had a surprise long weekend this last Friday through Monday at Valley Medical, after suffering what the docs said was is a ischemic stroke.

From what I can gather, I was pretty lucky. My memory is fine, my thinking is fine and my motor functions are fine, but my language skills are a bit of a mess. I sometimes have trouble using the correct words and/or pronounce them incorrectly. All the rest of the patients at the ward were vegetable cases… could not talk, walk or even swallow. So I was feeling pretty fortunate.

My email speed is way down as well. Right now my time per message for a typical 5 to 10 minute email is running is around an hour. Not good, but I’m not complaining, as it was more like three hours for the same length message a few days ago.
And I’m still ready for the new snow… I just won’t be able to tell jokes smoothly for a while.  But I’m improving daily, so I think I will be back on full joke duty soon.

Plus, I can see some upside to the experience as well. Where one might normally be offended my offensive behavior such as drooling, breaking wind, or leaving one’s fly open, one would not think twice if such scandal were accomplished by a stroke victim. I can see things becoming less “formal” quite easily. It might every turn out to be another way to help people be more at ease.

Anyway, I just wanted you all the know that I am fine for skiing and I am on the mend in the language department.

Wow, Ron, I just logged on as you posted this. Quite a sobering experience, and imagine if it affected your motor skills. I hope you recover well.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Ron! I hope I'll be out there skiing as quickly as you--I tore some muscles in my knee about 2 moths ago, doing rehab now.
