I don't agree with that one bit if you have 1st tracks! Guess different strokes.  ;)
Sloppy 2nd in those conditions is another story though.

True Joe, The first few runs can be great in that kind of snow, and it can also kick your ass later once it's tracked up, and a mix of very fast compressed hardpack and thick pillows of heavy untracked.

I am not sure which is worse, exiting the untracked and hitting the fall line on the compressed part with it's the sudden accelleration, or hitting the dense pillow of  untracked going fast and the sudden decelleration.  8) Whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger... hopefully...

thanks for the photo Marcus. The thing I like about the plastic card is that the lower volume allows it to be pushed up into the tour mechanism area. I'll bet that will help with icing up there. Breaking trail in sticky snow I get chunks of ice forming in that area. I might have to give it a try.

Very nice and you can wax the crap out of the plastic or rainx.
Thanks for taking the time to post it!

Thanks Mike I can take a good guess from your guesses.

Either way, when it gets tracked, it changes the whole ballgame for sure!!

on another note...
I do like the option of the doing the mounting with the screw inserts so the screw heads lay lower, it's gotta make sliding the binding unit on easier. I can just redrill the holes I have already to place the inserts.
If there is no overlap I can probably put another set in for Dynafit or downhill bindings.
Other screw inserts a bit of a copycat of the original. Quiver Killers
Either way I may use a drill press or some sort of jig so I get it perfectly centered. That way the M5 screws fit just right on the bindings, less wiggle room.

I mounted my TeleDaddies Thursday, before heading up.  Got a drill press for christmas, so it was pretty easy.  I just mounted them directly and had to file the screw heads a bit so the binding slid on easily -- a really snug fit.

I'll be doing the Insanes this week, using the inserts.  I think the lower profile machine screws will be easier to deal with for sure.

EDIT -- the foam fix Mike's talking about:

I'm surprised that you had to file those heads down, but I guess nothing is perfect.

I wanted to throw out that the adhesive shield that I use to protect my DroidX phone may be a good substitute too. But more on the pricey side.

You know, I think the problem I had is that I've skied those TeleDaddies hard for 5 or 6 years and the old mounting holes for my 7TMs had developed a pretty good hump -- I try to scrape them down and file them flat, but I couldn't get them fully "buffed out". I think the plate is just pushed out of flat a bit in those spots.
