What is acceptable protocol in this case?
Tell him you're not buying his lift ticket if his boots have bellows.

I told him to bring his AT gear ... He's insisting upon bringing tele gear.
Where ever did he get his stubborn streak?
Leave him at the resort, he need the L's if he is ever going to flail in grace. Besides, he'll only damage your rep if your posse see him with you.

I just got off the phone with him and he's coming down to ski tomorrow. I told him to bring his AT gear as we're planning on doing some sidecountry laps at Crystal. He's insiting upon bringing tele gear.
I told him that he can barely get down a green groomed run so skiing sidecountry crud is going to be beyond his skill level but he says he doesn't care and I'll just have to wait for him.
Do you think it would be acceptable just to ditch him????What is acceptable protocol in this case?
I'm sorry, but I can barely stop laughing.

He could be overcompensating for the lack of length and girth in his AT setup :'(
I think the meetings you want are called tel-Anon and they help the parents/spouses of those who are addicted to telemark skiing. It's a two turn program:
1. We admit that we were powerless over telemark.
2. You must agree to buy your spouse/child an aging Toyota LandCruser (complete with No Farms No Food and Phish bumper stickers), finance a pilgrimage to Crested Butte CO - from which they may never return, and accept the fact that your son may end up in a solar powered Yurt in Summit County CO.
Stay strong Scotsman, this may be one of the most difficult times of your life.
