What about a snowboard?but non releasable tele gear would be the biggest anchor of all.

Like having your very own tombstone already attached to your feet.
In fact they should pre-print them with your name and your desired epitaph already embedded in the ptex base.
Save a lot of time.

Finally demoed the NTN's @ Snoqualmie. I inquired about the release feature, and according to the rep (not Rottefella) it is considered a "catastrophic release" feature. There is no release spring tension adjustment, and it is not DIN certified. Not really confidence inspiring.
-Nothing against NTN as a binding system, I thought they skied legit, but the way they grip the entire forefoot of the boot, (BOF to ski) it felt like they would be more likely to shred my knee in an unfortunate fall,.. and I fall a lot.
I'll wait for the NTN w/ DIN that weighs half as much... It's coming, I'm sure. Because that's like AT gear, and no one has ever been hurt using AT gear, right? :
As far as avy compatible gear, are any bindings rated to release in an avalanche?
My O1's release. I just reach down and flip a lever, or if I want to look like a Bro, I stomp the lever with my ski... Like alpine skiers.
If I suspect a slope will release and bury me I hope I won't be skiing it, and if my bindings did have "avy release", I wouldn't jettison my skis when things got spicy.
I am a telemark skier, and I am not irresponsible because of it. (A mule headed glutton, maybe)
As far as tele gear goes, I think the burlier the gear, the more likely it is to hurt you in an unfortunate fall, but the more it may improve your skiing and control.
Scotsman, that setup is ideal for him to learn and excel on. Let him ski it, and guide him in the ways of risk/benefit analysis in avalanche terrain.
He's gonna rip.
