yes, but it's got to be something substantial. Plenty of testimonials over on telemark tips. Brenda got a realease while in tour mode earlier this year when a wind slab moved under us. We were lucky to be on a very shallow angle and it only ran several feet. During the scramble she fell and one of her skis popped off. I couldn't believe it, but she was quick thinking enough to reach down and flip up the the lever of the other binding to get it off as well. The front throw for locking the binding is in a very convenient location and doesn't take a lot to flip it open. I've never had a release, but I don't ski the resort a lot where I might take a big fall. Brenda was using very soft springs on a low setting with her release.

I'm getting confused. Is NTN releasable???

There's no real arguement about it - NTN is best for the down. Minor compromise on the up. Releaseable. I'm rarely disappointed by the best. That said, an interesting observation about teleskiers in denial - I'll bet too many in harms way do not use reliably releasable gear. Any info on that out there? Anyway, get him the goods, soon, and when he smokes your ass on the heli-tour, I already know how big your grin will be.

I think the only ass smoking will be coming directly from the source...
I like the idea of my NTN as a release feature. It has not deployed yet, but I think it would take significant force to do so. I have tried on my shop tests, but no results yet. Glad it worked for Brenda. We talk about the pole straps being a danger in avy's, but non releasable tele gear would be the biggest anchor of all.
I would not hesitate to use my NTN on the heliski if Scotsman would let me, I just don't want to be the guy that slowed everyone down.

Somehow I don't think that's likely to be a problem...

Ain't gonna happen... you're gonna have to be normal like the rest of us for a change.
