He can be my foster son. You know, Chris, the tele guys win all the raffles...he might share some of his winnings with you
I'm gonna friend him on facebook.
I'll rent him to you.
I'm offering a special discounted rate since he is now a telemarker.
He sold a set of AT gear to a TAYer on Friday who gave my 18 year old a case of finely crafted local micro-brew ( large bottles no less) for delivering skins to the guy.
He promptly came home and drank a beer in front of his mom .
He has now returned to college with a case of beer in his car and despite warnings that he will get in trouble if caught with the beer in the dorm is unrepentant.
Only one week as a telemarker and he is already drinking artisan micro-brew and breaking the law.

Not all of us do.
Have him look at an NTN setup (if he wants to be on the cutting edge of gear). If he's got good duckbill boots already, he should check out the 7TM bindings -- that's what I use.
If he's going BC, he should get the 7TM Tour version. It's super heavy (all tele gear is heavy now, compared to Dynafit), which sucks, but it's a reliable binding with a DIN release. Highly recommended, for that alone. I won't ski avy terrain without release, for the reasons you describe.
Thanks Marcus.... I will pass that along to him as like you I feel that releasable is a MUST for avy terrain IMHO.

Before NTN I used Voile 3pin CRBs for years. Not the best tour mode, but he's young, and it's fairly cheap and light.
Is that releasable??? He's on G3 Targa's mounted on my old G3 Reverends at present with Scarpa T1's.

Well here's an update: His first backcountry runs with tele gear where less problematic than I feared and he managed the less than ideal ski conditons OK but the ratio of actual teleturns to alpine was only about 15%.
We call this 'paramarking'. I see it a lot.
