13) Rule 2 above is superceded if skiing with people of faith, then they go first as they have to most to gain.

1) Don't turn up at the TH with 10% battery in your beacon as it shows no regard for the safety of your partner no matter how "sure " you are of your scientific facts regarding battery life.

2) Don't turn up at the TH with a plastic shovel and tell everybody it's to save weight. I'm carrying the biggest ,strongest metal shovel I could find to dig your ass out, you should return the favor and carry a proper shovel to dig my ass out.

3)Don't get to the TH and meet up with your partners and tell them... I've got a dance recital in Seattle at 4:00PM so it'll have to be a short day....tell them the night before so they can tell you to take a hike.

4) If catching a ride to and back from the TH it is your responsibility to engage in conversation with the driver to stop him/her from falling asleep. Falling asleep yourself ( unless given permission to) or zoning out on your ipod is not acceptable.

Pat I'll take a chance to solve the puzzle-

Vanna, can you show the man what he's won?

JoeDaBaker, why don't you PM Vanna for details. Some restrictions may apply. Void where prohibited. Must be at least 18 years of age to claim prize.

Considering the principles set forth by Scotsman in this thread, and considering his many years of great service to TAY, and considering his regular contributions to the betterment of his fellow backcountry skiers, I hereby nominate Scotsman for the position of Chief Etiquette Officer.

And now we shall vote. Aye for those in support. Nay for those against.

( Counting Votes )

The Ayes have it 4832 to 68. Scotsman, you are hereby appointed Chief Etiquette Officer.

If accessing a tour via snowmobile trails, treat the snowmobilers with respect. Get out of their way as they come upon you, wave "hello," and if they stop, talk pleasantly with them. I've run across too many snowmobilers who tell me about having gotten the finger from skiers, skiers who won't move over to let them pass, etc. This only creates needless hostility that the rest of us need to endure, and you never know - someday one of those motorheads may save your butt! And having a cross-cultural experience is almost always enriching.

When strongly suspecting crust, be sure to egg on the party member who tends to take more than their fair share of first tracks - let them be the crust test probe. It's only fair.

Keep track of your buddy when tree skiing. People reall do get stuck in tree wells, and sometimes it kills them. One way to do this is to ski one after the other and have the person in back keep up a steady stream of whoops or "I'm still with you!" comments so that the person in front can keep on skiing w/o worrying if their buddy is in a tree well.

Strong second to Scotsman's comment about letting folks know about end-of-day time restrictions the night before the tour, not on the drive to the trailhead.

2) When deciding to ski a suspect slope , the person without children or the lowest net worth finacially should go first as they have the least to lose.
