yes, I'm aware, but I'm thinking of the edge to edge / quickness thing, which, despite what the physics might suggest, still seems to be affected by width..

Hmm, ..guess I've been told !   I'll just have to start studying the hot shot skiers (xgames, Olympics, local hill, etc.) for what the cranksters are wearing.

Thanks for your thoughts, guys.

David, this is what the cranksters will be wearing this season.

Also my2 cents
DPS wailer 105mm
Dynafit Stoke or if I really have to go under 105mm waist.
Dynafit Manaslu.

Thanks for the input, Chris.  May I call you that?  ~ (Disclaimer:  Scotsman and I have never been introduced.  We ran into one another I believe, in '09, at Pebble Creek, or at least I detected a Scottish accent in the fellow - he had just been to the proctologist that morning, yet was out cruzin the slackcountry that afternoon - pretty amazing, really.  He was complaining of some mild discomfort and all I could come up with in reply was " No shit?").

Anyway, I have been considering the Manaslu, and a couple of others ~ all beyond the margin, but not outtasight.  I ride tele, and somehow want to do the G3 thing, but can't quite get there..  I really don't want to cave and do the RT86 thing ~ I may have to stay with boot turns all winter.

This has been an enjoyable thread and I just had to share my thoughts.  Here’s my profile: been around 63 years(retired), teach AT, ski 100-120 days, 75% lifts/25% tour, East Coast skier relocated to Seattle 30 years ago, Stein Erickson style skier (legs glued together).  April 2009, I sent Scotsman an email asking for advice about fat skis.  Scotty provided lots of advice based upon his experiences and purchases.  My narrowest skis are an Atomic Kailas at 126-88-109 which is a great all around ski and I use for AT teaching.  In February 2010, I bought a pair of K2 Sidestash skis and mounted some downhill bindings.  I’m a slalom style skier and these skis are 139-102-127 and I can enjoy short swing and GS turns. In October 2009, I purchased a pair of Voile Drifters which are 151-125-138 and mounted some downhill bindings.  Scotty has a pair of these and only uses them for touring but I love them on those heavy, manky PNW snow events that can trap your narrow skis and twist your knee.  Seeing my downhill male ski buddies are all much younger than me, I needed a Drifter style ski to keep up with them in the narrow treed terrain we gravitate towards.  O yeah, I bought another pair of K2 Sidestash skis and mounted some Dynafits to tour on in the spring.  Remember each spring the snow pack is mushy for a month or so until it consolidates.  Well, the wider skis make that mush enjoyable. Also we spend a month or so in Tahoe and The Sierra while things consolidate in the PNW. The one thing my narrower skis provided was deeper immersion in powder.

Here’s the short story.  I’m not promoting specific skis BUT I am promoting the idea of trying the newer fat skis.  I was reluctant at first but I am a believer. I also have Grandma Jill on some fat skis (K2 Gotbacks and Voile Drifters). I’ve spent a lot of decades on skis and I was rejuvenated when I started skiing fatter skis. It is about having FUN no matter what you have attached to your feet.

Scotty, thanks for the motivation. ;D
