Good lord. I think I'd end up sideslipping a lot if that were the case. My leg would be dead.

I think the guy on the left( Hayden) in the intro may be wearing a kilt.
No skiiny assed retro boards here and it says Backcounty!

Even with supefat skis with rocker you can still do what I call" heli-guide" turns and milk every last scrap of powder.
However, you ARE right that superfat has enabled big, fast GS style turns in deep pow and is the new style versus lots of little turns= old style.
In fact the fat skis with rocker allow for very quick turn inititation and are therefore great for tree skiing in deep pow and PNW crud.
I like to do both depending on the terrain.

Scottsman - I totally agree. back on the EC we used to get a lot of skeptical responses when we told our friends that we were on ~190cm, ~140mm waisted skis in the trees. The assumption was that they're only for huge AK faces and "western" skiing. Now I make it to the PNW and I find that a decent percentage of you are on skis skinnier than anything still in use on the EC. ...surprising to say the least. I always felt that this video that my friend allen put together two years ago was some of the best evidence around that superfat skis are good at making very tight turns (if that's your thing). If you're pressed for time, FF to 1:55.

end of discussion: the quintessential PNW ski is the Tua Touteneige with 3 pin bindings; search hard and you might find a pair; I know where 1 pair is; that and Merrel Ultras are the ticklet (and mohair skins).

Scotsman, samthaman,

I'd be happy to take you up and personally verify your claims about new school fat gear. Can either of you donate a set to the cause?

It was not long ago that I made what was to me then a radical and crazy change from a 190cm ski with 75mm waist to an AK Launcher, 174cm, 90mm. The trend continues with my latest setup at 170cm, 95mm. We'll see what's next.

There is beauty in diversity!

actually, yes I can. I'm a rep for DPS skis , so if you want I can get you a demo pair of anything in the lineup. I personally own a pair of older wailer 105's and a pair of lotus 138's that are mounted for dynaduke plates that i'm happy to lend out as well. Just to show that i'm not too brand crazy, I'd also be happy to lend you my roommates praxis powders as well.... just don't tell him.

So yeah, I can put you on some fat skis this winter, send me a PM if you want more info (this goes for anyone).

sorry for the spam but it seemed relevant here.
