Thanks for breaking trail! We left the lot ~8:45 and it was still puking. Things cleared up about 2/3 of the way up Chair 1 and it was plainly obvious that we were in the right place at the right time. Saw your voluptuous tracks in Edelweiss, and resisted the urge to de-skin right there and gobble up what was left (and there was a LOT left). Dug a pit at the top of UI, just under the cliffs, and confirmed the obvious ... yess, indeed, it was time to ski. And ski we did, 2000+ vert of blower fluf...
Do you have any pics from the TR?
Awwwwwh man! Wish I would have been there! I was workin' instead of playin'.  >:(

Great TR as usual. Hopefully see you next week.

Michael
Before you could blink an eye everyone was off in a flash and us old folks (Jeanette, Jerry, Dick and myself) were left in the dust (or, I guess in this case it would be, snow flurries).

Being one of the geezers, sure takes the pressure off having to keep up with the youngsters all day.  ;) We  had another stellar day at Paradise lapping up first tracks on all our slopes for the entire day, it just doesn't get much better than that....
Yeah you gotta watch those skiers, man.  Setting off avies, stealing your first tracks...
We were also up at Baker yesterday.  Left the parking lot at a leisurely 10am. On our way to our objective, Herman Saddle, we  saw a few largish skier triggered releases occur on table, which was interesting we hadn't observed those slopes actually run. Looked like only the new snow, but it ran to nearly the valley floor. Slow shoed it on out to herman saddle.  Dug a pit on the chain lakes side of the saddle...shovel compression test yielded that the top 8" moved on 10-elbow,...
Hey Ron,
It was great to finally meet you.
I met all of these folks that I have been wanting to ski with all year. I didn't really plan on only getting out a handfull of times. I was thinking more around the lines of 50 or 60 days.
Oh well, at least I got to put faces to all of the great posts on TAY.
Special thanks to Ross and Eric for the carpool!!!!!
We had some pretty good conditions over on Mazama ridge. Even though most of the fore mentioned gaggle ended up there, we had so...
Hey JibberD, Nice meeting you on Saturday. Sounds like you had an interesting trip after we left you. Thanks for posting the photo. Ended up going back up on Sunday .After promising the wife some family time , I coudn't stop pacing aroung the house muttering about powder and she finally relented and said go, so I left the house at about 10:30 and had a nice aftenoon skiing a nice north facing slope with sweet powder with some guys who where kind enough to let me drop in with them.

If the...
There ya go geezerizing us again!
Wasn't bad Looked like everybody was having fun.
More snow please.Snowing hard as we left and I guess they got6" last night.oght to be stellar for those that can get up there onMonday -tues
Wow I loved that day!!! 8) Great skiing you guy's!  Here's this weeks film: Pillow Talk
Nice reporting Ron!
Very nice day in BakerWorld today. We flew in fast and low in Eli's new car. Go, Eli! For a second there I had flashbacks to Utah with all the fluff around. Glad we could ski a run with Tim/Mark/Silas and crew.

PS Eric, Eli has a nice shot of you on his website.
Great report Ron. Sounds like you guys found a great stash away from our crowded slope over at Mazama ridge :-) !

It was great to meet you (again :-)) and finally be able to put faces on all of you!
Heard from some bashful tay lurkers this evening that Silver Basin was again superb today, kinda nice to have it quiet (sans lifts and extra vehicles.)  Not bad conditions this month for such a minimal year, just have to give a little more thought about where to go.  Baker, Paradise, Silver, it's all good!
I planed to ski crater but we are climbing two person together. The last thing you want to the at the climb is conflict.

Today I was in Bachelor 1 ft fresh powder, the official report is 9 inches. We got some more fresh snow afternoon too.  It is great it can not get better than this The bad thing was a cloudy day. It is powder powder powder  and can not get better than ..........

Team Tim allowed a "maggot" to join them today, and it was great.  Explored out along Ptarmigan Ridge north slopes, was reminded why Baker is worth the long drive from Seattle for winter skiing as well as summer.  Glad I drove up the night before, tho.  Worked the farm 7:30AM-5:30PM, no lunch break, Tim is a tough taskmaster.  They did not get enough action today, so will return for leftovers tomorrow.  Skied a run with Team Josh, Eli's photos pretty much tell it all.
Interesting...our posse had a blast all day in the back bowl.  We skied 6-7 runs for a total of almost 5,000vf and skied almost every aspect back there.  The south facing lines were like 2" of new on a smooth groomer.  The east facing lines were a bit crusty for the first 2 turns and then it was all good.  Ahh, but the north facing slopes were the deepest.  We finished our day there.  The sun cooperated for most of the day so vis. was not an issue.  Got to say, though, the run back out to t...

Now I know why Mark arrives at noon.Zap

Hey!!! That was our uptrack you were using, and our avalanche poodle-simulcrums; we must've just missed you, leaving the parking lot around 9:15 with a motley crew which included several skiers of your acquaintance (Pete and Ross), chasing but not catching at least one more (Tim Place).  Nice turns out there today.

After breaking trail and testing slopes for you and Jill, we investigated various ot...
Good to hear its snowing at Rainier again. i spent Tuesday through Friday camped up there on Mazama Ridge. It was my first time exploring mazama Ridge and I was impressed. We mainly snowboarded on the West
side of the ridge were the snow seem to stay good despite the weeks heavy sun. On our last night we also had an encounter with a fox. he tried to get at our food in our camp when we were sittiing out at night. The rest of the night he circled our camp and would try to sneak
into camp any...
That's a tough decision.  I would probably trick myself into carrying on with the skis anyway, by telling myself that I would save more time on the descent.

I was planing to ski in the crater but we did not want to be late so we droped our havy waights there.
Nice video, looks like alot of fun.
Right on the money on what kind of year it has been.
Gonna be a hard summer for TAY'ers though, wearing down the pavement to Paradise and Baker.

Too bad St Helen's is out of the picture, could use another volcano to mix it up a bit.

Wow am I jealous.  The best turns I've had all year were still back around new years with you guys.  Go figure!  Good to see the "crappy" conditions aren't holding you back.  Nice vid Tim.
Excellent, way to get out there.

Did you wish you had your skis up there in the crater?
Just a heads-up: I added some footage and changed some stuff on my viddy. Just in case you want to torture yourself by watching it again.  :)

Same URL.
Sweet Vid Tim!

You boys are stylin. And I agree...there has been some sweet powder days this year. Speaking of which...I hope to catch you down there this weekend as my regular partner has abondoned me for a few days in Utah.
You're looking good on those Jaks, Tim.  Not as good as Jeff, of course, but good.

Don't exactly know how we missed you Wednesday: maybe you'd already headed home by the time we arrived (10:00).  We did a shortened version of our Saturday tour and had a blast in almost faultless conditions.  I did persuade sb to drop another 500 feet into the drainage, and the snow got better and better (though shallower powder and scant base).

Thought I heard vague mum...
We drove to the TH with 4WD, we skinned the woods but couldn't ski them, once out of the woods coverage was good.

I like your vid, Phil!  :)

What program do you edit them with?
For a terrible snow year, there sure have been a bunch of epic days this year. Wednesday was another one.

That's right on the money, Tim.  The base may be a pitiful shadow if its normal depth, but I've skied more fast, dry powder than usual.  At least we can get quality, if we can't get quantity.

What kind of skis are you using?  ...  What are those things?

Well, the guy that can ski? That's Jeff, and he is on Pocket Rockets. That other guy is on Pocket Rocket Lites (AKA Jak BCs) with the binding in "guide mount".  That is, mounted 1" behind factory recommendations.  That puts them 2 and 1/2 inches behind BF/RLC mounting.  They are totally spastic for anything but heavy snow (AKA Baker Elephant Sn...
Superior viddy, Tim!

more beta on hidden lake peaks, pretty please!! how far is the road drivable, how were the woods, can one skin thru the forest, how was the coverage on the open slopes ? thanx!

I made a video, but it also includes our Saturday trip to Alpental, and our Sunday trip to Hidden Lake Peak.

tim, excellent entertainment!!!

Justin's rock traverse

The scary thing is you can't really see the actual nasty bit.  Apparently it's just a nice little ski run with more snow...
You guys make it look so good . . . sorry I missed it. Home trying to keep the last vestiges of the flu from turning to pneumonia.

Justin's rock traverse looks sketchier than Sky's huck on Blum, IMO
Ok, but here is one that sucks:

no way!  nice work!
Nice, high quality video.  Good humor too.

What kind of skis are you using?  They're different from anything I've skied before.  Do they have little jet packs that provide thrust at the end of the turn?  Also perhaps a bulbous bow to keep the tips floating?  What are those things?
I made a video, but it also includes our Saturday trip to Alpental, and our Sunday trip to Hidden Lake Peak.

That is a very cool video. Looks like a blast!
Thank Jeff

I will try it thanks. I did Broken Top yesterday. 10-12 inc fresh snow from Saturday Sunday Bachelor , Broken Top, Sister area . I am heading MT Hood for Summit. Snow here is very good now. But south faces, because of sun effect lost powder condition get heavyer. Rest fresh and powder.

Cem
yo, sweet shots.  wish i was there instead of dreaming of being there...

I would much prefer a Dusk Patrol, I can't regularly miss classes. Leave Seattle at 2ish would work great. Anyone?

I would be interested for sure, pbelitz.  Just say when.
That fire in the sky is quite nice. Great shot! I see sunrise from my bike at dawn, and today looked good with the freshies on the peaks. I've been itching for some pow on the skis. Thanks for showing us what you're tasting.
Some screen-grabs from the video camera:

Can you spot the snowboarder?
