Ah man I am totally losing right now, looking at those pics!
This is my favorite volcano route.  Way to find some nice turns, guys.
Hmmmm, looks like we need to add training on lake rescue to the Glacier Skiing/Snowboarding and Crevasse Rescue course.
Nice you guys, how fun  :D!  Good thing Skip kept the sharp ends of the ski poles away from the boat  ;D.
So what's the deal? Cass gets the raft to move fast enough that you can do water skiing? ;-)
Your elevations seem to be close Matt. Also, the bottom of that ribbon of snow in your picture is about 4500'. Nice job, can't wait to go back!
Water skiing, eh?

Great picture!  :)  :)  :)
:)
I love it.
You guys are a never ending source of creative amusement.
Did you get any turns in?
Nice photos and TR, Smooshy.  The Beer Ninja and you are having more fun this summer than I am. I have not found any stashes in Chicago, Minneapolis, Newark, New York, Boston or Palo Alto.

Let me know when you head out next.
Matt, thanks for the additional information and photos. Looks very nice, but maybe more suited for an overnight trip like you did at this point. I'm just trying to get some August turns in a day trip - I get ski-lazy at this time of the year. Next year on our awesome snowpack...
so you paddled across Blanca Lake to access the columbia glacier?  damn!  how many miles of trail to get to the lake?
I wanna see pictures of y'all storming the beach.
Excellent!

Captains log: July, 1997 - Party of 3 (Elias, Ian, myself) arrive to the shores of the lake with one Nautilus-class inflatable vessel only to find that the ice was too thick to make the crossing. Neither ourselves nor our vessel were equipped for the rigors of polar exploration at the time so the mission had remained incomplete...

No way!   :D

Looks fun... kind of  ;)
Charles, I'll give you some approximate elevations along with another photo. (Maybe Toby can give you some more accurate elevations as he had his altimeter last time...Toby what's the elevation of those high campsites???)

The picture below shows a ribbon of snow (that we could have skied...but does not connect to the upper ridge).

However, we skied to just above the high campsites (where many people usually camp) approx 6000 feet...well below where the Cleaver starts (approx 6800 f...
Thanks for the report, Matt. I'm wondering to what elevation you could ski at the bottom of your run?

Also, it looks like you were probably still skiing on the late season (June) snow up higher, the really smooth stuff. Did that new layer disappear at some point on the way down, putting you on more cupped/dirty snow?
Unfortunately I don't have any great photos of the headwall.

I will be surfing with my ski partner next week...I'll ask him to post any good headwall photos he has.

However, here are two links to some of my decent headwall photos:

The upper route:

Laurent feeding on corn:

I went and skiied the Muir Tuesday, July 26th. It was a gorgeous day. At pebble creek we saw a group of climbers/rangers carrying a climber down on a stretcher. They seemed to be all smiles and in no particular hurry, so I'm assuming all was well. At about 8,500 feet on the snowfield, I noticed 3 or 4 tracks up above the Nisqually Glacier (to the West) on what I think is the Wilson Glacier. It looks like a long approach for a short ski? It did looked nice, though. The turns down from Muir were a...
Nice! That's a great ski.

Do you have any photos of the headwall?
I looked down the NW face to the Quien Sabe below (has anybody skied that yet?).

I think A McLean, M Volken and others skied the W face a few years ago.
My first time up Sahale was from the south.  I thought I could reach the summit via the west ridge.  Once I reached the ridge I about soiled myself as I looked down the NW face to the Quien Sabe below (has anybody skied that yet?).  I then found the gully.  There is one move there that is ok going up but really sucked for a short person coming down.  Luckily there was a group on top that let me use their rope as a hand line.

Your handle reminds me of the Ned Needl...
JW.
Nice little video. Great fun you all have.
enjoy your days.
Jessica
I'm sure that the view of Boston Glacier would have been awesome, but we'll save it for another day...

Sounds like a nice way to spend a day.  The Cascade Pass region will always be one of my favorites.
Incidentally, while you can see a small part of the Boston Glacier from the top of Sahale, the best views are had by climbing the Quien Sabe (or Queen Sloppy as I like to call it) to col between Boston and Sahale.  From there...
I like that intro - (nudge) yo Ron, now you drink the beer!
Great video J,  ;D, I love Mt. Adams, it's my favorite  ;D.
Wow - Jerman.
Fantastic video. The Geezers are certainly lucky to have such talent amongst 'em.  What a great way to immortalize a trip.  Nice tune selection, too.
It's now become a piece of my permanent library.
Thanks.
JW - After doing plenty of meadow stomps a boulder stomp was long overdue. ;D

Ronj - I believe 3 times this month.  Something about that line that keeps me going back for more.

KeepemTurning - Likewise Mike.
Kam-  missed this one... Great TR.  Used to live in OC for many years and enjoyed going here:

The hut at Mt Baldy (Mt San Antonio) is pretty easy to get to and they allow non-members to stay overnight for a few dollars.  You may have already been there, but if not I highly recommend it if you're in the area.  The hut has an interesting history and there's usually several local skiers that'll help make fo...
Thanks for the intro to SW Chute ;D. Had a great day. Oh yea this is from the "Forgotten Name".Alias Mike J.
By the way, the "Good luck dude" has been finding his way out of the mountains to many years to count. Thanks again for the turns with you guys.
Good show, Eric.
So is that two, or three times this year?
Glad you had a good time Eric. That boulder stuff was fun but tiring 8)
A fun trip, wish we could have gone a bit sooner but the weather and other factors wouldn't allow it. That run is definitely spectacular!  We just forgot the snow ends about 1500ft higher than a normal year 8) Oh well what's a little bouldering. 8) Sky thanks for the kind words, and great job on your Mowich decent!
Ally-sone your right that photo says it all!  Fun 8)

Here's a Slideshow/Video of the trip.
Hi from Vermont.  Nice report and pictures Jeff.  Wish we were getting some turns!
ron j, mad dog, jw--high five.  that picture of jw and jeanette cruisin' down the slopes says it all.  you guys sure know how to get out and git some--way to go!!  8)

...apparently skiing in July in the northeast does exist!

who woulda thunk?   :D  coming from new england myself, i was surprised to hear that east coast might not be as lacking in year-round skiing as one might think...just watch out for...
definately something I'm sad to have missed thanks for the TR
Well, mate, we definately missed having you along.  The "A Team" just wasn't the same without you.

... A few questions that hopefully some TAYers can help me out with:
How much further does the continuos snow last?
You can now see from the pics where we loaded up at about 7800.

super trip guys.  nice nads sky.

pb, shouldn't this be a form post entry?

The teletips discussion about <insert any topic> is fairly amusing as well.

Seconded. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

The teletips discussion about Phil's photo is fairly amusing as well.
Hey Jas - checked out your trip report.  Nice photos dude!  I think Paul would agree 8)
Here's another point of view for those who've read down this far:
Thanks for the TR. I headed up Adams for the first time this past saturday and had a blast. I was with a non-skiing friend, so I was on my feet all day, but i'm considering leaving my non-skiing friends behind next time and bringing my board instead.
Having climbed up the south side, i have a good idea of what to expect for that route, but it sounds like the SW chutes would be a better descent. A few questions that hopefully some TAYers can help me out with:
How much further does the conti...
Just getting up from my nap...
I still have some pics to get up -- I'll get to it after I, ah, I know there's something else I need to do first.
Way to keep doing your thing, Ron et al.  It's great to hear about people having a good time in the mountains.  It's quite clear that you know how to enjoy yourselves.  I'd like to trump Mad_Dog and say kudos to anyone earning turns and enjoying the freedom of the hills.

That's what I love about TAY.  I...
Thanks, y'all!   ;D

That's what I love about TAY.  It's the content.  There may be myriad perspectives and styles of skiing, but you are guaranteed to find plenty backcountry skiing of the human-propelled kind...
definately something I'm sad to have missed thanks for the TR
;D I am not sure the Chinese have a unified position on Devil's club though since Kam seems to actually enjoy the torture ;-)
Thanks for posting that TR Lowell.

We also stopped at the bullet hole. Beyond that the slope steepens and reversing from there isn't fun, as it was just what Ben, Josh and I had to do several years ago. My anticipation of putting myself in the same situation again wasn't something that I wanted to do. Sometimes going back to a demon you think you know is worse than the unknown.
Congrats on your trip, guys. Glad everybody stayed safe. You might find Andrew McLean's 1999 trip report interesting, if you haven't seen it. Interesting how Andrew's party found super icy conditions in a big snow year while you guys found good snow conditions in a meager year. June weather is the key. This year it was pretty snowy in June; that year, the upper mountain was in the clear much of the time.

...Cute pooch too.

As one would expect, he was on the ''dog route".  ;)
Nice photos. Sounds and looks like a fun time.

Cute pooch too.
