White Salmon, and Yakima.

Although I like going down with a snowboard, I sure don't like traversing, yo-yoing, walking in those boots, and extra gear to climb up. I like the idea of the new randonee gear, but I'm not sure if I can remember how to ski with my heels tied down.
Nice to meet you Major Geek and Norma. Glad you got up and the south face looked like a good ski also. I bet the labs loved the ski down.  ;D
Glad I could help with the bindings and that Norma liked her new skis. Hope to see you around. Do you live in Hood River?
That was probably us (me, son Zach, friend Dave).  It was a sweet day - just about perfect conditions.  Although it looks plenty steep from the top, I wouldn't call it a "no fall zone".  I've certainly fallen in there plenty of times.
Nice to run into you on the route and thanks for the help with Norma's bindings. We were the two with the two chocolate labs.

We did make it to Piker's Peak at about 14:30.  When I looked over the edge down the SW chutes, I didn't like the looks of the traverse back to the our camp at 7100 ft. Not enough snow. Much less than my trip last year in late July. Too many rocky ridges to cross.  (This year we didn't get into continuous snow on the way up until...
Thanks Jeff,
What way did you guys hike out when you did it on the 1st?
Congrats on your conquest of K-Dege!
I think I've got a picture of you in the chute (party of three?), but I've not yet had a look at what's in my camera. Snow conditions were quite good for the chute! (shame I chickened out on the entry...) Beautiful day!
Nice work. Glad to hear the Californian Mark and Lucy got in good shape. We skied it on the 1st and also had a great time.

OH I'M SO STUPID!!!!!!  tomski's LOVE BABIES!
I had NO idea!!  ~moment of silence~
Yeah, he did mention that he'd done the snowdome twice that day.  I sort of kicked the dirt and muttered something like, "cheese and rice".
He was a nice guy.

OH~ I forgot to add, we met this guy:  http://www.turns-all-year.com/indexyrsimages/szwedkot/pho.html at the parking lot when we came back down!  He did Snowdome twice in the morning.
I didn't realize who he was until the other night while perusing all the folks who have these crazy multi-year streaks of TAY.  wow.
Scottie, I clicked on this about 2 minutes after you posted- :)---good send.  I'm going to Leavenworth for Thu-Sat. but will be back for a wedding.  I'll call you about sliding down something Sunday.  cheers
Wonder if there is any chance of crossing the Eliot below Cloud Cap?
Hey Jeff!
Yeah, actually he did mention something about skinning for that very reason...
Shouldn't you be watching fireworks?  :)
Congrats volcanogirl et al. on a great trip! Snowdome is a beautiful tour. In response to:

We meet some climbers that had spent the previous day at Lake Ann. They had aborted their climb of Shuksan because the conditions were not favourable.I am sure that the snow will be melting like crazy this week.
I always like your trips and tr's. Nice!!!

Nice read, Jason.
Killer trip.
Looks snowy, mon.

I don't imagine there's still any coverage on the White Salmon side, is there? (to make for an easy approach to the north side of Shuksan from the ski resort)
I should add that in honour of our two national birthdays, our party included one Canadian, one American and one American who has lived in Canada for thirty years.Bigger photos can be found:  http://www.telemarktips.com/Photopost/showgallery.php?ppuser=61&cat=500
I had planned to go to knapsack on saturday as well but mountain biked at crystal instead. Wish I would have gone saturday so I could have hooked up with you guys...

But today, Tuesday,  July 3, 2007, I booted up to the  Knapsack area and skied down from the pass, up and then down the flanks of Fay, and up and down on the other side of the valley as well.

Beautiful corn made for easy and delightful skiing. Unfortunately the melting out prevented a continuous line....
Volcanogrrl is correct, the bridge and a good portion of the trail was washed out from the rains of this past fall.  The trail above Cloud Cap is well defind and easy to follow.

Another pic for you corn dogs!...Roger making it look easy!

Apparently (and correct me if I'm wrong), the climbers' trail used to cross Elliot creek and go up that ridge on the west side of elliot creek.  If that's the case, I pro...

  * who needs tele-in', with style like that!  -- great shot Don!
excellent weekend up in Spray Park. This was the first time Brenda and I had ever camped there.

Kind of weird weather. Both days socked in late in the afternoon. Sat evening it cleared off nicely as things started cooling down, then Sat morning perfectly clear until early afternoon. I'm not sure how you all found a clearing window to ski down the headwall that afternoon. Things really socked in after we pas...

Anybody ski down the languile (sp?) side and down to the mtn. trail? Hows the snow cover down that side?

Wish I could find the time to get out - I'm jealous!

Rog
Nice pics!  The river crossings in that area can be QUITE sketchy, eh?
Gorgeous shots!  Wow, we practically coulda had a TAY party up there, what with how many of us were up there.  So cool.  bc-skier, you must've been coming down the trail while we were on our way up, huh?

Jamie -- tomorrow.  Yeah, I'm in.  (hell yeah!)  I might have a friend coming with me.  it'd be awesome to make a day-trip of it, and find a perch to enjoy whatever fireworks fun Hood River has to offer?  Anyone?  Bueller?
I like your TR's, Dan.
You just lay out the facts and... that's it.
Clean, succinct and to the point.
Glad to have you in our neck of the woods.
Don,

You get major kudos on the photos! I wish I had 1/2 the photographic skills as you obviously have.

Good to put an face to all the Avatars :)

Sounds epic! ;) Entertaining TR there JW!
An excellent weekend of day trips! Glad we lucked out on getting a well-timed break in the clouds/fog to allow us visibility for finding and skiing the Flett ‘headwall’.
Additional trip photos posted here.
Michael and Brenda - great seeing you again randomly on a ski outing [guess that makes 3 times in the past month! :) ">

Great day on the Dome,

Me and my buddy Dave were carving up the corn that day as well...and what a great day it was!

All this time I have been reading posts by Volcanogrrl, and what do I do but pass you on our way down from the dome and didn't even say hi!

It's never to late I guess...Hi!

Hope you don't mind me posting a few pic's?

Don

PS - Roger that's you skiing down thru the clouds.
Dave,

Lookin good on those new skis!

Roger,

I have a couple good pic's of you, guess I'll have to start a new post.  Good to meet you.

Don
Roger,

Great meeting you and Dan Sunday morning on Snowdome...that was the best cornfarming I've ever done in July!  Still dreaming about it today!    I snapped a  shot of you on your first lap down Snowdome.
Yes wonderful time was had. Thanks Volcanogrrl for the TR and photos.  Lets do that again tomorrrow - eh??!!  Can't wait to see the other photos.

And getting dirty is really what its all about, (vs the opinions of our trailhead company) in fact while i was reinforcing the dog's kennel tonight with extra boards, screws, etc, i thought the only true way to use this power drill and handsaw is in a pretty floral skirt.  great fun until i ripped my skirt on...
Having been left for dead on the South Col and suffering the effects of not very hypoxia, I was rescued by the heroes near the summit of Dege Peak. I credit Ron's selfless sharing of his aptly-named tonic for my revitalization. Thanks again for making the entry into my 40s memorable.
Looks like a neat place!
Now this is what I call a TR  ;D

Good to meet you. I hope everyone had a great time! I sure did...

Thanks for all the pics Ron! I was sorry that I forgot my camera so we could have had some of you.
Now that's killing it.  Way to be.

sounds scarey.  my nerves are more 'testy' when skiing on glaciers.  i've shown this photo a number of times, but every time i look at it gives me the willies.  i'd have a bad day falling in...
Yikes !  What an accomplishment.  I'm pleased you all made it back safe.  As your mom probably said during your formative years, "be careful".
We're too tough to carry oxygen, Kamster.  Besides, I has enough supplementary specialized mountaineering sustenance to carry as it was.

After we conquered K-Dege we headed for "Fear Factor" but fearing that it wouldn't "goat" we settled for yoyoing "no fear bowl" at which Victor joined is on his personal quest for a memorable 40th birthday and beginning his 106th month of year round skiing.
Congrads, Victor, and well done! (nice turns, too...
Ally - cool trip, nice report, uh, so-so trip partners.  Looks like you pulled off a primo trip in spite of 'em  ;)

Kam - great pics, mate.

Cass - nice form, as usual (back to AT, eh?).
Chris, here is a link to the rest of my photos. Elk Mountain

I am sure Stewart is the first 15 year old human to visit that basin.  Thanks for taking so many great pictures and going with me on a "hairbrain" tour.
Thanks Allyson.  I had an experience once on the Russell in that I had forgotten my skins and opted to go for it anyway.  My foot sank in at one point and I jumped fast to take my weight off of it. Yikes. Can you say Darwin award? Any newbies out there - don't even think of glacier travel ropeless without skins on skis - I figure at least you can mitigate some of the risk with weight displacement.
Thanks Michael for doing all the scouting on your previous trips to this area. The chute was a marvellous ski and yes SKYKILO the snow was really good. :D

It was very special to reach this flat green meadow at the base of the chutes that is probably very rarely visited by humans. There are big boulders everywhere and evidence of huge avalanches that must sweep these faces on a regular basis during the winter. We found one boulder about the size of a  small car that was perched on a ne...

Couple of questions - did you ski down the moraine side of the Russell (skiers left) or straight down the center?

hi scottb505--we pretty much stayed close to our uptracks, and hugged the skiers left moraine side.

Any crevasses opening up?
