Wasnt that nice! We were up there on Friday 3/27, did not post because no pics. But it really was nice and sunny and pretty - especially because it was raining up in Snowqualamie Pass (and in the lowlands)  where we had planned on skiing.  8)
did you do both diamond head and "little" diamond?
Good to hear from your camp again. Always inspirational.

Hi Larry,
Sounds like a classic Sasse Ridge Medical Clinic visit!  There is so much peace and fulfillment in those solo outings.  Glad you got back to it.  You sound like your old self.
Thanks for the TR.
Of note: by Saturday the crust was persistent high up on the west/NW slopes of Sasse Mountain.  We gave up trying to find some holdover powder at 4400 feet and skied the Howson road back down.  Quote of the day, "this sucks, why are we not on our way...
I dig the video too!! Great effort filming and post production!
3/28 Skied between Paradise and Narada.
Upper crust was supportable in open areas where the sun had prior access which made skiing in open areas a delight and shaded areas a challenge.
Dumping all day.
when we did it, crossing mtneer cr. was pretty much the crux of the day.
a butt-shimmy across a fallen log in the rain 10 feet above the raging creek and boulders while holding my snowboard.  fun stuff.

really nice photo documentation. thanx
amazing

someday I'll be in the moving pictures....

Seriously,  looks nice, heading up that way tomorrow.

Great TR Larry.  So sorry about your wife, but I'm glad you're getting your therapies, such as they are.
There's magic in the mountains!

Welcome back Mark.  Will look forward to hearing about your adventures  :).
pugh awaits.....
Corrected a few things in original post.  Obviously I mixed up 4096 (easy to remember as 2^12) with 4070 (similarly memorable as 10 * 11 * the twelfth prime number).

From Pugh there is a striking west-facing ridge (including the pretty extreme looking west face of Pugh) that curls around to south-facing gullies on Spring Mountain (I did not know it had a separate name until a minute ago).  The common properties of all of these places are that they are steep, were loaded with...
watched you guys rip down the apron from the skin track
Nice work she was a beauty
Dawn Patrollers (Ari, Haggis, and others)- thanks for setting a nice uptrack, and leaving us more of the slot to ski for ourselves

Lisa- thanks for the beta on partners

Kam and Bob- good times!

Chris
It's great to have you back.  Your trip reports have been missed.  Please go back out and torture yourself some more and post another report.  ;)
Glacier Peak (insert drool).
I thought you gave up skiing. You returned just in time for winter.

For those of you that don't yet know or recall what a live wire, a virtual bundle of jangled nerves, that Mark can be, just take a gander at him during a typical day of his recent travels:

Glad you guys had a good time and finally hit the slot, its a magical area indeed.  I figured you all would hit it off, glad to hear it.
Hey Chris - great photos!  Your photography is getting pretty dang good!
Beautiful area.  Man am I jealous!
Glad you got out!! Looks like you had a beautiful day out there!
Good job uncaging the bluebird.  :)
What a interesting, challenging, and fun trip!  I had several gear issues, the main one being that my skins need to be re-glued, and the other being that one of my ski poles was sucked into a worm hole when I fell on the way up, never to be seen again.  Fortunately, my ski straps worked well on my skins despite needing to be adjusted constantly.  Also, it is possible to do a backwards somersault down this mountain with yours skis in free heel mode and end up with a tree branch in the back of you...
What a relief to know you are still with us!!

It would be a pleasure to ski, for once, with someone who does not require me to pant with my tongue dragging in the snow at the back of the pack!!  Maybe we can skin up to Cheap Date some mid-day, do a lap, and call it a day, retiring to the tap room to recount our adventure.

Welcome back, wordsmith.
It was nice meeting you in the parking lot yesterday, Mark. Sorry about the identity mixup, but after all, it has been 4 or 5 years since we last skied together and we are both getting elderly. Is it possible to be a supernatural geriatric?

I've missed your very readable trip reports over the last couple of years. Those of us who do not write so well, often try to make up for our literary handicaps with our photos. I hope that you don't mind if I post a couple shots taken y...
Ari, we should have got those 1st tracks - screw the time factor!

Good looking turns there in your photos.

Dang!
Ari- It was good to see you and Rob up there too.
I met you skinning up there last April (I think) when we had that super light pow. If I remember correctly you and Rob got first tracks down the Slot while we headed to the Crooked.
Thanks for the invite, and a great day out!

A few corrections, the road number is 4096 - easy to remember, it is 2^12

Definitely will be an easier approach next month with a little more melted out on the road and more visible ground on the 'purgatory' section of trail to 3000'. I was surprised to be able to skin as much of the lower route as we did. However, it is remarkable that there was no evidence of storm damage to either road or trail, no additional blo...
Looks like we missed out! Nice meeting you guys.
The voice in the wilderness returns -- look forward to reading your TRs again.
Welcome back!  How far south did you go on the motorcylce?  funky bags.  BTW I got a F650GS

Mark,
Wow, I was touring yesterday wondering where you were.  I was headed home from Baker backcountry @ 3:50.  Sorry to have missed you.

Since you've been gone we've had a baby, toured less, but smiled even more.  Drop me a note so we can catch up.

Mike (and Pamela and Piper).
Nice to have you back, Mark.
We missed your pithy graphiology  ;)

Guess that lottery win wasn't as big as I'd imagined, eh?  I expected you to be gone for at least another year or two  ::)

Thanks for the report, I'm looking forward to some pictures, gotta add this one to my Mt. Loop list.
Mark - welcome back to the PNW and skiing. Funny timing - while touring yesterday, we ran into a couple of Baker skiers and someone commented that they hadn't seen posts from you in a long time. Again, welcome back!
Perhaps the most finely nuanced TR of the season  ;D

Crunch time Andy, Bigger skis ,better technique or more din ? ;) We better be quiet about this after all our recent posts . Actually I'm quite jealous and wish my skis were coming off. I'm nursing a sore back. looking forward to doing a light weight spring tour with you.

Yeah, not the best conditions for geezers with bad back (I almost didn't go...
awesome photo!

Nice to meet you if only for a split second  ;)
Right on!  I was out for the brunch patrol up Hyak to head over to Catherine and Radio for a few hours, must have been your signatures I saw.

Did you all do two laps?  If not, sorry to burst your bubble, but Hyak frontside is only about 1100' give or take a few lines.

That not so fun crust down low turned in to not as fun mashed by 1430.
I had a nice view of Barometer Mountains and environs today from Herman Saddle. I'll post a TR tomorrow.
Wow, I had no idea that video was on youtube. My wife is famous. We did a fair bit of skiing out there. The terrain is outstanding. On the way back to the car it was snowing like crazy. Our snowmobile driver pulled over at a couple of places and let us make powder turns between switchbacks... Very nice... Then he picked us up again at the bottom.
I'll go back...Eventually.
I could not resist letting Ron have all the midweek fun, so I skipped work today to get tracks here with the freshies that fell this week. Lots of fun, the first few runs were nice, but by noon it thickend up quickly, was able to make 1 more run in good snow before calling it quits.
Dorothea & I did the little loop to Glacier Vista & down Edith Basin today.  Multiple and variable crusts as Andy described.  There was a  recent crown fracture on the SE side of Pan Pt about 8" deep and a couple hundred feet long.
