Are WA Snow Park permits currently required for parking at Marble Mountain?
How id the igloo kit work? Did your igloo hold up well? I have used mine a few times, but the igloo has a tendency to sag with age. Probably find out in the next installment. Looking forward to it. Wild trip.
First and foremost thanks for a spectacular trip report, I think you might have had some luck selling it to some ski mag, but so glad you decided to share it with us in stead. You sure hit the sweet spot, the right guys, in the right spot, to just slay big stunning lines, nicely done. Standing by for more, thanks!

DAY FOUR:
Started like the other days, except as soon as I woke up John was unzipping my tent door and handing me a breakfast sandwich. Talk about 5 star service!
Adam spied a cleft that looked like it would hide a west facing couloir. We hadn't been on anything west facing yet, but were all willing to check it out. It was pretty close to camp, before we knew it we were skinning up to the bottom of the shot and go...

I guess another pic won't hurt, just to show how exhausted we were after a late morning start and a short uphill, or maybe just being laid-back literally ;D

Pack some klistah!
;D
Someone once gave me a button that said, "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want." Your dad was right. :) It was not a failure because you now have experience with timing you can apply to future trips, and you learned the value of carrying some duct tape (or athletic tape).
You should feel really good about making decisions based on the situation at hand, and not getting blinded by your goal, which has certainly killed many an adventure...

What were the road conditions past 29 Pines? Was it even close to melting out to the Bean/Beverly turnoff?
I have a thread in the road conditions/central cascades for information about Teanaway access. I would appreciate any info you have. Thanks.

I was actually hoping for a weather day near the end so that I could rest.
You know you have it good when… ;D

SO RAD! I have flown low over the northern Neacolas and the Revelations for work and left drool on the window each time.
BTW after reading your post I realized you were kind enough to respond to my call for beepers over on TGR for my contemporaneous Alaska trip. Never did find any partners, but had a blast anyways and became totally hooked on Alaskan backcountry skiing. My little...
Got to spend two weeks there back in the mid-90's...glad you enjoyed it!

Highlights of the trip included:
Watching "Shred" decked out in shorts and tanktop tow his daughter uphill on their way to Muir.
My friend and I witnessed this event around McClure Rock - impressive doesn't begin to describe it. We both said we should make friends with him as it seemed like the best way to get to the top!
Nice to meet you! Looks like you guys had some nice turns down that thing! We got to watch you drop in, from moon rocks. We should get together for a ski sometime.
Wow, great photos.

Awesome video Dave!

Photo number 2 looks really enticing.
You wouldn't happen to want to make a little wee hillmap (.com) out of your route so I can understand it a bit better???
I have never skied/ snowboarded/ whatever the Olympics and it might be time to ride the ferry a bit.
Thanks for the TR, excellent stuff.

Epic! Very nice. Looking forward to the next installment.
Way to get out there--VERY COOL!!!!!!!!!!
The Kautz Calved on Saturday. That must have been you we saw skiing the headwall. It came down exactly where you guys skied. We were glad you guys were out already. Safe to say you were lucky!
i just really want to ski the crater. like inside it. :)

I find athletic tape to give the best glide for keeping uncooperative skins on.
Also ski straps have saved my skins. One mid ski up front, and one mid ski in back seems to hold 'em on nicely.
Mike… I *really* wish I could have joined you. Missed out on a good one. Keep inviting me!
Sweet Tyler!
I'm pumped to get out this spring. Plans for the Spearhead, Something in the north cascades this spring (ptarmigan or forbidden) and I really need to to something long and adventurous in the olympics.
I may just do this one soon!

Very nice. Thanks for the post & blog. I love the Olympics.
Never been on top of Klahhane Ridge on a completely clear day but assuming one would find amazing views. I've always wanted to ski HR on Memorial weekend with Swifture sailboats racing in the Strait below. Hopefully the weather and snow pack will cooperate one of these years.

Thanks for the psych, I've been thinking of hitting that area too. Great pics!!
A stellar day for sure!
I was out there the same day, after three days on Hood for a friend's wedding:

I thought that snow conditions ranged from very good excellent for well over 4,000' vertical, with ski descent timing was very similar to yours ... although I have to admit, was dictated more by other factors than by any sort of careful well-informed assessment:

Cool. Did the Kautz calve on Sat or Sun? After dropping camp, we skied the Wilson headwall on Sat--wonder if we narrowly escaped the crush. Wilson HW skied soft enough, and it's beautifully clean and smooth right now.
Also noted that Sunday was "warmer" but seemed windier--unfortunate for the upper reaches of the ski slopes.

Didn't take too many shots on the ascent as we were trying to finish up before it got dark, but the conditions were perfect for booting. Névé with a couple inches on top. Everything in AK is foreshortened. It looks like you'll be there in 15 minutes, an hour later you're still skinning/booting. This first coulie was no exception, we could see the top the entire time. Took turns breaking, going at a steady pace. We topped out at about 6400ft, the...
thanks for posting the TR.... i was down on the snowfield on Sunday- saw all the little dots working their way up the upper Nisqually and was really curious what conditions were like up there.
Really well done video, enjoyed watching. Thanks.
that moon is nearly bright enough to make night corn possible :)
very cool. been wanting to get out there for years
stunning pictures! The moonrise / sunset images are awesome!
I have a totally unreasonable amount of pictures from this trip.

Shred,
"Daver" and I met you along Glacier Vista while you were providing a tow; we were impressed!
We camped at the Castle and had a great view of the 4 guys skiing the Wilson Headwall. Sketchy line; a serac peeled off the Kautz and thundered down the headwall about an hour after they skied it. I wish I had seen the Kautz Headwall ski!

Great day to be on the hills!
Saw some sweet lines thrown down this weekend, like the Kautz Headwall and the Wilson Headwall!
A little vid of the days conditions. Everything is Phat, go get it!

Great shoot - I think I'm going to steal that song for my oldest daughters wedding!
That is a spectacular line you stumbled on. Beautiful country.
Awesome-most enticing pics of Pilchuck I've seen yet!
Looks like we descended at just about the same time as you on Sunday!

We ended up booting most of the way due to the firm snow conditions. Here's a shot of us skinning right after breaking camp at around 6am.

Thanks for the great report, reading is about it is a close as I am likely to come. Scares the spit out of me just to read the story.
Impressive up and down of a big mountain feature in crap conditions. Sounded like you guys were well within your limits, and had things under control. Some of those steep ice pictures made my blood turn to piss. Thought about climbing it when I was young, and we went out and got drunk instead. Great effort. You'll get good skiing somewhere else.
Way cool, Jeff.
Your daughter is "Rich" in more ways than one!
Sorry we missed you Saturday. Visited with the Jessels up high. We had a good laugh remembering how Kristy got her nickname "Bad Buddy" on our Skyline tour last year. :D
Looks like she's earned a new one "Rad Buddy"! ;)

No sadly it is not. That is just the view from the top of surprise pass. That mountain is Mt. Aberdeen, information on that line can be found here http://vertical-unlimited.blogspot.ca/2012/05/alone.html.
And the pictures from the second chute.
Nice Job! I've had a few unsuccessful jaunts up the gib ledges ... Good to see people getting after it with skis.
