This report makes me think I should go ski Mt. Cashmere this weekend.  Great photos John.  I like the boot shot with Stuart in the background the best.

I wonder if Loren knew how big a day he was getting himself in to?  Bottom of Bridge Creek to Mt. Cashmere, that's around 6300 feet isn't it?

John, I have to agree with Sol, you were conspicuous in your absence, now you are just like the rest of us, suckered in to a season of frustration and waiting for the weather to change!  Welcome to the club!
I was a bit blasé in regards to the trip report but this cutting the gate move... shit. You're lucky they only cited you. In my experience you would have gone straight to Guantanamo. In any case, I'm sure the next time you set foot back in the park you'll be pummeled with human feces by the numerous TAY'ers that routinely patrol the lower reaches of the mountain. Chapeau.
Exactly Sol.  I have no mountain touring cred built up this year.
I guess that's what you get for going skiing this year.
THat looks fun.  I need to get over to that side of the mountains one of these days and visit Mt. Pilchuck.
awesome!  Sounds like a huge day!  That photo from the summit down the line looks pretty intimidating.

You know I think that road is long in a truck.  I bet on a snowmobile it feels like a really long way.
Two people were citied by NPS for cutting the lock on the 410 gate driving up the road to the White River CG and parking there while they attempted to climb and ski Liberty Ridge.

The supreme lameness of that move could only be made more lame by double posting a long-winded TR about a poorly strategized and executed mission, without claiming the cut lock.
There's no telling what else a man deranged enough to rappel Lib Ridge with a 30m rope is capable of.
Rad report. Nice mix of dialog and pics without getting overly detailed.

Thanks for sharing
Killer adventure, thanks for sharing.
Not trying to hurl accusations, but Kyle's post makes me wonder. I was up around Colchuck Lake on the weekend of this TR...

... and parked at the gate closure at Bridge Creek CG on Saturday. On the way out Sunday we passed two vehicles parked pretty far up eight-mile road. I was confused but figured they knew something/someone we didn't because the gate was still closed.
Hey, Nick:  Good to know you are getting out  :)
Nice work cutting the lock at the White River gate at potentially messing it up for everyone. Classy!

Thanks for the great photos!
1. Was the road plowed to the trailhead?
2. What time did you start? What time do you guess the other guy started?
3. How was the creek crossing?

Thanks!

Plowed/ melted all the way(as of 10 days ago) I'm sure it's dry road all the way by now.
I started about 10:00 I think he started about 8:00.&nb...

Yup! SE aspect my bad. Great running into you too!

Jason - yeah we skied the far side (in that picture) of that summit pyramid

relaxing on the true summit..... Icy descending the summit pyramid for a dozen turns or so, but then a couple inches of corn down to a cliff band immediately above Glacier.

I was up there last summer and was curious about if you could ski from the tippy top.  So you are talking about skiing from the top of the rocky point in the near background of your second photo?

Awesome report! I'm heading up there next spring looking to do something similar. What did the plane cost?

$300 a flight hour in the cub, $625 in the beaver.  Other operators might charge more or less.  Average cruising speed for both is a little under 100 mph.  You're obviously paying for a RT flight on the way in and out.  When ca...
ski2fly,

Where are you coming from?  I'm in Poulsbo…. Hoping to get out on HR in May as well.

Snow persists up there usually through June.  I skied a thin line off of Klahane ridge last July

Send me a PM if you wanna tour sometime.
No, everything on the White River Glacier still seemed pretty well filled in with only some minor depressions. While we never got close, the Bergshrund also looked still closed up. There were some minor glide cracks but nothing more than an inch or two wide.
Yep I've got the 2011 vintage TX Pros, but I stopped using the top buckle. If I replaced them I'd probably go with the TX instead - to maintain ntn compatibility and subtract one buckle.

One thing of note that I'm glad I thought about beforehand was using Radical toes with the tts heel conversion kit. I think it makes getting in significantly easier.

Looking to ski something new- for us anyway, rather than the Nisqually Chutes, my son Jeremy, Greg Wong, Steve Price, and Peter Mullen, and I descended what is essentially the skiers more or less "left side" of the lower Nisqually Glacier. We Contoured onto the glacier about 750-1000 ft below Camp Muir Camp Muir. It was a beautiful ski with excellent corn, a bit of route finding, and...
Some footage from today featuring Dave and Silas

Silas is our aging Rod Stewart.
I can imagine his pickup line: "Ni hau, Chinese girls! Welcome to the land of perennial snow and no heavy metals in the dirt! Sit on Uncle Silas' lap and I'll teach you to ski!"
Awesome report! I'm heading up there next spring looking to do something similar. What did the plane cost?
This is just fantastic. Thanks for sharing such an awesome adventure.
Nice Web, glad you're happy with them.  I've never skied mine with the toes in "tour" mode, including a day of pretty pounding garbage at Crystal a couple of seasons ago.  Never had a problem, but that's only one data point.

Dan, I'm using the TX - if my memory serves, Web's on the black/yellow TX Pros.

I'm flipping my TTS over to my spring ski next week, hopefully get them out for another spin.  The Freedoms were pheno...

and then elected to ski the NE aspect down to Glacier Lake, which had already started to receive sun.

did you mean the SE aspect Ian?

way to get the chik!

Great running into you both for the shuffle down Gold!  And thanks again for the lift up the pass.

Looks like a good time, great weather and some fun people.
Hey Silas / David I have a question for you. I have may have a touring day available Friday May 16th based from the Kitsap Peninsula and am thinking of hitting Hurricane Ridge, but don't have any concept of duration of snow pack or what to hit. Any thoughts  on that much appreciated. Of course forecasting Spring snow coverage a month ahead of time is sketchy but any directional beta appreciated. Will likely be calling the ra...
I was thinking last night in bed that HR would be fun today… Alas, I had to do chores today.

But looking to get out there soon.

David… keep me up on your plans!  We need to ski and explore
Don't want to derail the TR topic, but….

Just got my TTS bindings in the mail today :-)

What boots are you using?  I have the F1's and Tx Pros…  Tx Pros are used on freedoms currently.

Hoping to log some big adventures this spring and summer with a little bit of weight savings.

How have the TTS been treating you?

Not too bad. I do feel I can get low enough to be stable and charge, but it feels like it takes more energy to make that happen too.

Today was another good experiment day - I have had a couple warranted releases, but the "DIN" does seem to be a touch low for me with the toe in ski mode. I don't feel goo...
Not exactly hero corn up there today, but not bad.
How have the TTS been treating you?
DAY FIVE:

We woke up early feeling rested, cooked breakfast, melted snow and started out around 10am.  It felt like it was colder than the other mornings, probably just earlier, and we all had numb toes.  Only way to remedy is to go faster.  Skies were blue with a smattering of cirrus clouds, creating a beautiful backdrop for the huge north facing alpine walls we were passing under.

First and foremost thanks for a spectacular trip report, I think you might have had some luck selling it to some ski mag, but so glad you decided to share it with us in stead.  You sure  hit the sweet spot, the right guys, in the right spot, to just slay big stunning lines, nicely done.  Standing by for more, thanks!

Thanks! Will post more in a bit.

How id the igloo kit work?  Did your igloo hold up well?  I have used mine a few times, but the igloo has a tendency to sag with age.  Probably find out in the next installment.  Looking forward to it.  Wild trip.

We didn't use it too much until we got very light precip on the last day.  Took down the mid since we were planning on flying out anyways.&nb...
Thanks for the report!  Did you guys see any crevasses opening up?
oh man.. I'm salivating.. need some good weather! nice work!
Nice job of route choice and taking advantage of the weather window. I love that area.
Nice work and report.  Getting to be that season...resorts are about done, but not much uphill required.

Cheers.

Are WA Snow Park permits currently required for parking at Marble Mountain?

Nope, not as of April 1st: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mountsthelens/recarea/?recid=64876

Which is good since there's no snow in sight of the parking lot anymore!
Sounds like a great trip.

Mt. Shuksan was one of my first routes in the Cascades with my wife (then girl friend).  That was before I saw the light and started to ski.  We went in summer and got off route (to the climbers right).  We met a couple of Canadians who were climbing the fifth class blocks in big boots and moving fast although they were belaying.  They directed us to the standard gully route and after traversing and climbing the gully, we met them a...
