I was one of the four that you met on the mountain that day. Thanks for the brief hello.
We continued for a while past the point we met you to about 6200ft, but did not climb any higher due to lack of visibility. We were a few hours too late!

Hard to see with the clouds but Cliff Mass says the snow depth at Paradise is 10-20% above average for the date. I'd say everywhere above 5,000' is looking pretty good.
Looks like a great trip Lowell! Thanks for the fun write up. I like the photo of Tom skiing on Aasgard Pass with the lake in the background. That track photo on Snowcreek Glacier is great too.
This is on my to-do list for next Spring. Appreciate the photo captions including the description of the ascent up Pandora's Box.
Cool TR and Photos. That was my "plan B" in my head for the day... It looks like the sun was shining and the skiing was good all over east of the crest! I happened to steal of couple of Wenatchee locals and convince them to head north. ;D
A fabulous day! Thanks for the invitation, Dan. Your interpretation of "30% chance of rain" was completely accurate. Here is a bit of video from the day:

Jamie and I counted 32 cars at the Blue Lake trailhead as we were leaving. Another 23 at the hairpin. It was a busy day on Madison Avenue. Amazing that we were alone so close to the crowd. And speaking of crowds...

How did the coverage look on Copper, Iron and Pyramid?
Skiing off the back side was very nice. But the melting seems to be about 2 weeks earlier than last year. It was great to see Silas filling all of his usual roles in the Silver Peak clan: party host, cheerleader, DJ, chocolate dispenser, and drill instructor. Seeing him cruise up the bootpack made me wonder: Is it possible that broken ribs make you go faster?
Better that I discovered this thread AFTER I lent them my pulk. Looking forward to their next TR.
Godspeed gentleman.

Godspeed gentleman.

You must have fed the flux capacitor some plutonium today, or was that tomorrow?
Indeed! Have been very much enjoying the reports of your various adventures this spring.
Booyah Pete!
Hopefully there's still time for us to get out for a slide this year.

Awesome!
It makes me smile when folks get naked for normally non-naked activities.

Well played! As a former birthday suit tourer, I can vouch for the freedom of skiing in such a way, nothing can match it!

Nice link up!
Wondering if you climbed back onto the Turtle higher than shown in your picture?
Man, that upper headwall dropping from Pt. Success down the Kautz looks like the $ shot. Sweet!
Thanks Tabski. We felt pretty darn privileged! Good question on the Turtle, a pice I left out but is important beta for anyone wanting to access the to...

Solid trip!
Did you loop back to Muir to pick up your stuff or just run light and hump it?
In some ways the big R looks more filled-in now than it did a month ago.
Hey Jonn,
We went light and carried our gear. There were several decent options on the table and we wanted to ski to the car, so the only option was to carry. Worth it!

Freeheelvegan and I just watched that together. That is fricking awesome! Loved it!
Done it a few times but like the reminders for sure.
right on, Pete, was wondering what you'd be slaying in those parts.
Sweet steeps tour fellas.
Also had my eye on that Colfax line, must check it out more closely one of these days.
I guess an attractive, yet easily-accessed line + visibility + good conditions = shralp shralp shralp

Great pics. Just looking at that bootpack makes my toes sore.
Thanks for writing this up, Amar! Poor Shoestring Glacier accumulation zone.
Awesome Awesome Awesome! Beautiful pics. Makes me wish I was there right now (of course right now I think it is raining up there). Awesome.
Nice link up!

If you ever find out who else was up there, I'd be interested to hear about it.
I’ve always looked at that line … so visible when climbing the CD. I believe it gets skied/ridden occasionally. A couple of years ago a local (Glacier) splitboarder (Woods, or something like that) told me he had done it.
Last week (May 13) was the first time I had...
A strangely quite bluebird day on Silver (a rare treat). Let the party skiing begin ;D. There is some $ to be made on the approach with various types of aluminum debris melting out?

Looks like a pretty big 'schrund to air out at the bottom of the Thunder Glacier Headwall.
That's some mighty fine steep skiing you're doing!
Myself and others have noted that the alpine (above 6,000 ft.) this year is much more open and exposed than normal. It would be wise to be careful in the alpine in the Baker area as the snowpack cov...

Thanks Amar. I enjoyed every word of this report!
It appears that he is putting the squeeze on their ribs... :D
Spectacular photos! Do you need a permit to climb/ski from this side of the mountain?

So you parked at the start of the peak road to the top? Nice report--thanks! Nice pics too...
rlsg--yep, parked right at the Paulina Peak Road snow gate. I'll bet by this weekend, the road will be open. Park by where the Crater Rim Trail crosses the road. Unless one is a local and skis the chutes all the time (which I'm not) it's nice to be able to...
I hope those girls aren't squeezing your ribs too hard . . .
Great day riding with you all today! Post some of those pics. :)

I'd been unable to find record of anyone skiing this line and we arrived to see two tracks down the face apparently from within a couple days. Left some big, freeride-style turns, too. Nice work, whoever you are.
If you ever find out who else was up there, I'd be interested to hear about it.

Yes sir, though regrettably we did not follow through on rap-skiing some 5.12's, despite carrying all our backcountry bling bling up to the wall :D
Looks fantastic--BTW down here in Central Oregon, the snow (at least today) has a "high coefficient of friction" to say the least. Heard yesterday was totally different (100% good versus 100% bad like today..).
@Steve, Ummm, he said morning sun dude, we were there at 8pm. ;D
BTW, corn was PERFECT at that time in the evening. There may be walking at the bottom after today...

Thanks for the PSA, this area is a special local gem indeed!
Now that the Silver Peak gang-bang is officially going to kick-off with the 'drive-able to almost pass level' announcement, please remember to be good stewards when the parking lot parties start moving up onto the slopes and N. ridge. The last two seasons in particular have allowed our crew to ski out an unfortunate amount of trash, which included the obvious beer cans & bottles, food packaging and my fav...
