Spectacular photos! Do you need a permit to climb/ski from this side of the mountain?

So you parked at the start of the peak road to the top?  Nice report--thanks!  Nice pics too...

rlsg--yep, parked right at the Paulina Peak Road snow gate. I'll bet by this weekend, the road will be open. Park by where the Crater Rim Trail crosses the road. Unless one is a local and skis the chutes all the time (which I'm not) it's nice to be able to...
I hope those girls aren't squeezing your ribs too hard . . .
Great day riding with you all today!  Post some of those pics. :)

I'd been unable to find record of anyone skiing this line and we arrived to see two tracks down the face apparently from within a couple days. Left some big, freeride-style turns, too. Nice work, whoever you are.

If you ever find out who else was up there, I'd be interested to hear about it.

Yes sir, though regrettably we did not follow through on rap-skiing some 5.12's, despite carrying all our backcountry bling bling up to the wall :D
Looks fantastic--BTW down here in Central Oregon, the snow (at least today) has a "high coefficient of friction" to say the least.  Heard yesterday was totally different (100% good versus 100% bad like today..).
@Steve, Ummm, he said morning sun dude, we were there at 8pm.  ;D

BTW, corn was PERFECT at that time in the evening.  There may be walking at the bottom after today...

Such a new schooler, all the kids are going rocker....well, maybe not that way.  Time for new sticks!

Thanks for the PSA, this area is a special local gem indeed!

Now that the Silver Peak gang-bang is officially going to kick-off with the 'drive-able to almost pass level' announcement, please remember to be good stewards when the parking lot parties start moving up onto the slopes and N. ridge.  The last two seasons in particular have allowed our crew to ski out an unfortunate amount of trash, which included the obvious beer cans & bottles, food packaging and my fav...
Are you the guy we saw up there?
Cool pics, sick looking playground up there! What beautifully sculpted slopes
...and lines. haha
We were curious too, but could not see the road, and didn't check it out.

Btw, More of Radka's pix here.
Re:grooming. My kids were down at WP last Fri-Sun (w/o me) for a private "flight and speed camp" to practice DH jumps- they ran the chairs for them ~7am-12pm up off of Couloir. Main Street was groomed / had snow back to the base, as Chair 4 wasn't going for them.

Way to go, Zap!  Thanks for all the recent info, and the inspiration to get out.

You could due a 2 for 1 on this weekend.  With Chinook Pass opening on Friday at noon.  You could ski at White Pass and then a short drive to get to the opener at Chinook. I would love to due it but I am at Timberline. Plus a 2 for 1 at my age is  not allowed.;)

Did you notice, was there snow still on Main Street? When the resort is open I usually skin up that way to the bottom of the Bird chair to access the expansion area.

I did not look at Main Street.
How is the rest of the road up to Hyas Lakes TH? Did it look snowy from your perch? (hard to tell in the B&W photo)
I was up there a couple weeks back and did find it interesting that a number of ski runs seemed to be groomed, albeit with a few inches of snow on top.  I was thinking is this a phantom opening of the ski area in May? My guess is they run the cats to haul things down from the upper mountain.
Nice, J Ash! Did you stay on schedule to pull tough at one of the exits?

Nice! with long range trail breaking strategy and all!

I gotta get on that too. More in the 150cm range, tho I suppose the bindings are key.  If anybody's got some kids touring bindings lying around I'd be interested.

Nice, guys. Wow, snow is receding quickly
COOL!  How were the mosquitoes?

Do it again next week and I'll join ya!
that looked really fun
So, you were the one I saw cycling up that road as I was driving down after a day of skiing on Heliotrope Ridge!  I was thinking that's gotta be be a leg burner cycling uphill with equipment in tow.
Tough access is pretty common up here in the PNW; seems like an overnight from the ski area or a sled to the res could open up the goods in the winter.

Thanks for posting stuff from Utah BTW. This website wasn't intended to be PNW-specific but somehow it ended up being that way; it's refreshing to see people get after it in other states after the lifts stop spinning.

Thanks Drew, snow wasn't great, but it was an adventure for sure.  Looks like you've been getting after it out in the PNW.  Still haven't made it out that way somehow.  Hopefully hit Rainier later this summer.

Jonn-E 3 peaks over 12 in the Tushars, formed by volcanic activity.  Would be cool to do some mid-winter descents on a stable year, but access is tough.
That pull-behind wagon is slick.  Nice work and thanks for the report!
We started up around 5pm. Good timing for us as we missed the mountaineers parade.
Studs!  Neat outing - you deserved better skiing......
Wow!  Great pics, vid, skiing&boarding. Gives gardening a bad name.....
you coulda kayaked from vancouver!

impressive!
You Utah guys get away with the tiniest of packs!
I didn't know there was a 12'ers in Utah outside the Uintahs and La Sals.
Agreed... great trip, man.
Very cool photo-TR.  Cold "Creek" can sure feel like a big-'un eh'?

While I was not quick enough to reply...

It's ok, take comfort in knowing that most don't have the talent, athleticism & patience to ski free-heel  ;)
We got up to Silver of Saturday also. Must have been after you. We saw the sled tracks. We came up from Annette. Didn't bring the skis. There was a little bit of bushwhacking down low near the lake, but it didn't take long to hit snow. Then it was snow all the way up.
nice work on skis and with the cameras!
Yeaaaah J!

That's some obscure stuff. Cool adventure.
