HA! Good thing I'm not looking for a date.
Yes, Mike, that pack does make your butt look big.  No, the pack does not make your member look big.  Well skied!
Thanks a bunch for the other pics!
DAY NINE:

This weather is unbelieveable, another day of waking up to blue skies!  Is it a dream, are we going to pay for the high pressure that's been lingering?  I was hoping this weather would last until our pickup day, but Matt texted us on our Delorme Inreach to let us know we would see a weak disturbance hit over the next couple days.  Adam decided to take a rest day, John and I decided go on a small tour up to the cirque that held the Twin Towers Coulo...
Last picture is SE toward stafford creek. I added a few more photos to that flickr album showing navaho and miller. No evidence of any major or even minor slide activity...except that little bit of cornice drop in the photo and some very minor wet slides from me skiing.  I even tried to launch a snowball down that slope in the photo to no avail.

Didn't dig a pit. The softness underneath the crust went down a foot and wasn't rotten...just annoying.

edited to say th...
Thanks for the report. Any idea how deep the softer slop was?
What a great day out! WA pass is pretty stunning this week.

What direction was that last photo (with the cornices) looking? S toward Standup Creek, E toward Navaho & Stafford Creek, or N toward Hardscrabble? I am planning a trip up Stafford tomorrow (Fri).

Obviously with the warm weather this week wet slides and cornices are the primary avy issue. Any avy activity or observations of note? Did you dig any pits?
On the drive home I asked Sara, "come on, don't you have a tinge of regret that you didn't ski naked?"

Sara:  "no, none."

It was a great birthday.

Thanks for blowing my cover, Jamie ;)
Happy Birthday Mike, sorry I missed you guys. Beautiful day up there. Was that the big gully past the last tree on the way to the towers?
Going to Pilchuck on Friday to investigate Silas's Jump Turn. ;)
thanks everyone!  i feel a little better about the time spent in front of my computer editing photos now that some people have actually looked at them.

nick & kristina: well if you only had a day, i think the decision not to ski was pretty reasonable.  maybe our paths will cross on some other mountain...

rowan: yeah, that's probably my favorite photo as well, captured with none other than an iphone.  that little drop was pretty fun... the landing was a little steep...

That photo of John hucking the cliff against a huge Alaskan backdrop is so money!
Also, I know from scientific testing that glacial ice cocktails are in fact the best.

Thanks!  My buddy Adam captured that. We got video too from John's POV and mine.  Will take a while to put together an edit though.
Interesting. You can see Sloan from the top of Sage Hills preserve in Wenatchee when it's clear.
killer shots! Sloan looks rather enticing
[doozy: something extraordinary, good or bad.]

I don't know who used that word, but kinda like it.  btw, we did find the trail for getting down (I was rather relieved).

We did do some skiing too:

Trail? What trail?

I was told the approach was a "doozy", but it wasn't until I got back home that I looked up the true meaning of that word. Yeah  ;D

I have a few pictures to add:

MounTain LooP, as in Hwy

Thx, Crispin.  Should have been "Mt Loop Hwy"...
Hey z-bo, heading back to the great Flathead Valley. You're always welcome back.
I think you guys win the prize for the most interesting post this year!! I did not read every word but I will, hope JH's spirits are high, and the world looks a brighter place, what a great adventure! thanks for the words, and the pictures.
And omg.  Who's skied nw Sloan?
Hopefully there were no north fork sauk crossings but if there were...more power to ya!  Love Bedal.

Great pics of the green and white; classic PNW. Makes me want to revisit Sloan on skis again soon, especially that east flank. Spring slop, powder memories... Still nice to be out and carrying less, never worried about the daylight hours.
COOL--and thanks for the excellent pics!
Excellent adventure and great write up.
I sure enjoyed reading this, Dan.  Thanks for sharing.  Great adventure!  Really like the sharkfin photos, and that camp in the wind photo is great too.  Nice work on this trip.
Only in the northwest can you say "the trail was in good shape - but we lost it."
Awesome!  Where is that cave at?
This is one of the best TR's I've ever seen....it motivated me to buy my plane ticket!

Good job, kid. Wink

gotta like it
How do you say rad in viking?

"then let's get tons of fuel and go here!"

HAHAHAHA!

Awesome trip!  Fun fact: Seattle City Light's Steam Plant has enough steam lines running under the streets that a few blocks of the downtown core stay snow free, which was most evident in the 2008 storm.

Was it maybe this senior Swedish guy?
You are predicting the future with tomorrows date. ;) Congrats on getting out again! Did you see a lad and his dog Tucker up there? He started up early to beat the heat so you may have missed him.

Such an amazing trip.

Will never forget this classic quote from a certain professional skier

Q: Hi....so where in Iceland are you from?

A: Hi....My name is Kyle Miller and I am from Seattle, Washington.
Well done - thanks for the report.  Some variation of this is yet on my list before I get too creaky.  Full on Cascades adventure - including some forest schwating - I love it!
Thanks for the great read and pictures.  You went out with one of the best for a couple of trips and were ready to launch out on your own afterwards.  That is what it is all about.  Good luck on further adventures and hopefully you will post more great TR.
Let's see, huge trip, check obligatory suffering, check, great story, check great pictures, check.  WOW! thanks Dan.
Absolutely.  My first few guided experiences were really private North Cascade Mountain school classes.  At least that is the way I viewed them.  And I still intend to do many guided trips in terrain that I am still uncomfortable in.  It's all about knowing your limits and then expanding those limits responsibly (in my case I have a wife and 4 kids :)  )

It's funny because my friends commented that this tour felt a lot easier than the Isolatio...
What a trip! It seems to me going guide-less makes for better adventure.
Awesome super-adventure!  What a journey...
Thanks for the update.  Where in MT are you heading?
Update from 5/10. Road is driveable to the TH. Not much snow until you get near the upper Bean Creek Basin. Plenty of snow after that. Corn was in excellent shape on 5/10 at 2 pm.
