Yes you can ski from your rig.  There are a few thin spots though.  Yeah, skied off the top enough to know it is not anything special most of the time if the chutes are the goal.  I had had enough of the wind and ice by that point.  Several groups bailed 1/2 way up pikers.  Past few trips I have just stopped at pikers.
First J-berg, now Chaval; inspired choices.

do you have gps tracks for this?

I should have this one saved, but have to check.  I normally use auto-archive, since rarely reuse any saved tracks.  I'll PM you or post it when ready.
Nice work as always. I had to share that log picture on my Facebook Page!
Whats this Sugar Bowl? The real Sugar Bowl is in Tahoe...Ten bar pass at high altitude huh? Can't wait for that story.  I'm heading for Sun Valley on Saturday
Glad you you reconnected to the higher places Hombre.

And nice line fellas!
Thx for sharing. Beauty photos.
Good one!  I've been eyeing those slopes for a while.

Good info! I was wondering if the gate would be open or if it would be an epic trek on a snow-free road to the trail head. We ended up summiting Hood and skiing mediocre ice/snow from the hogsback over to the Illumination saddle where it got good, and then over to and down the palmer, which skied great.

Last year I did Adams in early June and when we crested the false summit it was so cold and windy that most people were huddled just below the ridge and then skiing back down the stand...
If you get tired of A$pen, come to Santa Fe!  We also have snow down here plus plenty of good touring options I'd be happy to show you.

I was able to skin all the way to the summit

Sweet
Awesome photos! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the report - I am looking to get up there sometime soon myself! Were you able to skin up from the trailhead, or did you have to hike the trail for awhile?
Agree with Jason4 - only saw the one crack up near the summit ridge.  We brought glacier gear, but ended up just being dead weight.

Ok, fair enough - thanks - skin thickened a bit.

It's like revisionist history, with vintage splitboard gear from yesteryear!
0830hrs - The feds are getting sporty with the longer daylight hours!
Looks great!  What time did the gate open for you guys?
dub, the drive is dry to the trail head. Trail through the forest is also mostly dry, with a bit of ice on the boardwalks where we treaded carefully on the way out.
How far up did you park? The hike? Thanks!

That's a bangin' picture. Early Morning Spire I believe behind the floating skier?

Jake!  Let's climb Early Morning Spire this year.

The latest craze in snowboarding?  You bet!  All the splitboarders are doing it!
Hi Zap - She already knows I'm crazy, and there really was no need to remind her of what an idiot I am.

I hope she doesn't read TAY....

I was on Eldorado on Saturday and went through the talus in the dark in both directions.  We found the bridging to be good for us but it looked like a lot of the tracks that were from midday were left in much softer snow.  I'm usually pretty nervous around crevasses and I would say that they are very minimal.  There weren't any times I was concerned and there was only one that was open and it was near the summit ridge.  We stepped across a very narrow crossing in an...

That's Cheakamus Glacier, ringed by Mt. Davidson. Mt. Carr and Castle Towers Mountain.

The backcountry pass is confusing, but you can ask them to put all possible options on so you can take the lifts that open first.
And thanks for TR!

Ah, thanks! One of the things I was most impressed with on this traverse was the vastness of the moun...

You mean top left??

How cool would it be if you could flip the mountain over and ski to the summit, then flip it back and ski to your car?  Ski:climb ratio=infinity!
Nope- lower right. See those switch backs? That's the OTHER trail (Bell Pass) that ascends up to the Park Butte area from the West.
I would like to stand up and admit fault for some of those although given it was 28th Feb we were putting the 1st lines down all day.  Can I have my ball back Mister.
Sweet! Did you bring glacier gear? Any open cracks?
That's a great idea Drew.  Light on the uphill, and fast on the down. haha

Oof. A summer trail, plain as day, in the lower right.

You mean top left??
nice video.

I like the shots you set up.....most people don't realize you have to do it twice!  they forget how the camera gets there...
Nice work!

Road driveable to the trailhead?

I love your trip report.  You made it. When you arrived at home, did your wife say “are you crazy” or “great job, can you take me and the kids on the next one”.
Thanks for the report - looks as good as yer gonna get bout now.
Nice, Dave!

I bring rollerblades for the road.
Nice, thanks for the report, and sweet panorama!
Yes, some rock is exposed.  Looks more like April/May.
Yes there were lots of crevasses but easily spotted.  We did cross a few cracks which were in the process of opening which was disconcerting.  Skinned to the fumeroles and summited on foot as the Roman wall was too firm to ride.

Conditions for early March: sounds good for August
Summit:  priceless
What's the condition of the summit area? Is much rock exposed?
