7" in 24 hours at pass level should warrant a 5 hour delay? Is this really reasonable? As has already been mentioned multiple times in this thread, there are other places with a much more extensive road network to manage that do just fine. It's possible.

7" in 24? No. But another 7" in the context of a 80-100" week? Perhaps.

One of the ones they knocked down onto hwy2 would have buried an RV.

Agreed, they got some big stuff moving, but maybe the closure should have started a little earlier then peak westbound traffic time on a sunday? Question is, would the big slides have triggered earlier in the day? It sounds like the folks at WSDOT waited until sluffs were running onto the highway before the closure, I think it should have been closed earlier to avoid the ensuing cluster. Just my Armchair QB observations.

Pretty sure the people driving cause the delay. I can't tell you how many times during a trip to/from Snoqualmie I see people doing 65+ mph in a full on snow storm with the road coated with snow. WSDOT can't really do anything when people don't obey the signs that give the varying speed limits.

I also think there was either a death or a serious accident on i90 going east-bound as I saw it fully closed with 2 snow plows and a trooper blocking the road with an ambulance going through traffic.

Agreed on avi control but I think yesterday's closures on 90 were more road surface/driver related, which I think pre-treating the road and continuous plowing could greatly improve.

I can think of something else that "continuous plowing" could improve, but this isn't tee-gee-arr, so I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader ;)

I was at Hyak skiing yesterday afternoon and had to wait out the backup. Does anyone know if it was ski traffic or a wreck that made the truck try the shortcut? Coming down late and slow was a breeze.
