wsdot snoqualmie rant

"It snowing. We'd better close snoqualmie pass from ellensburg to north bend. That way we don't have bother plowing. Joe called in sick today anyway" ---wsdot. Maybe I should go to stevens. Arggghhhh.

I got an early start today to try to get ahead of a closure. Now I've been on the shoulder for 3 hours and I think i found the end of the internet.

When I drove down from Hyak to Issaquah this morning at 6:30am the roads were fine, maybe an inch or 2 on the road but very easy driving. My girlfriend on the other hand that was driving eastbound said it got very bad east of the lake all the way past Easton. Said the roads were not plowed and it was 8"-12" deep. I'm sure that is where the problems are, not up on the pass, but it hurts all those who just want to get to the summit.

I have nothing but respect for the people who make it so effortless for us to drive to the pass 360+ days a year. The quantity of snow that WSDOT removes is impressive. WSDOT avalanche control work is prudent and effective.

As drivers on the pass, we see only the tip of the logistical iceberg that makes I-90 possible.

Driving back from Cle Elum last night it was NUKING from Easton till Hyak, could barely tell where the road was, from Hyak west roads were fine and easy traveling.

Totally agree. Just because you happen to get stuck on I-90 for an hour or three a couple times a year doesn't mean DOT isn't working their butts off.
