Snowshoe party of 13 off commonwealth. One unburied by party members, one still missing.

Just got off Snoqualmie Mountain, and I can say the snowpack was REACTIVE. I plan on posting more over in Weak Layers, but suffice it to say the snowpack is not safe in unanchored terrain.

Terrible news.

It ain't all that safe in anchored terrain, either. Lots of pockets letting loose all over the place up the Alpental valley today. Little cohesion amongst the slabs which broke apart quickly but they move quickly and have the energy to push you into places you wish they hadn't. This will change as the storm snow settles and the winds shift as the current system blows through.

Smart terrain selection, safe travel techniques and knowing when to pull the plug will be essential over the next few days.

Also, the daily NWAC reports cease for the spring after tomorrow - please exercise caution and good judgement out there! Don't let the last storm of the season be the last storm of your life...

Great skiing at Alpental today, and very glad I was not in the backcountry.
Just drove past some SAR vehicles. Let's hope for the best...
