The shop messed up and while they should be able to fix it by injecting epoxy in the holes and clamping the base before remounting with correct length screws and then doing a base grind -- the life of the skis will be reduced by that base grind. Also even with epoxy repair to the core -- the ski might fail at one of these holes at a later date due to these shenagians -- and at that point would K2 still cover the ski under warrantee ?
I would insist on either new skis -- or at least a written contract from the shop to replace the skis if they fail anywhere near the holes within five years.
However they treat you -- whether they give you the run-around or if they treat you right -- it seems like mentioning the name of the shop in this forum would be helpful to the rest of us.

Eh, let them fix it. Grind the screws a bit shorter, reinstall, and base grind. You'll get a better base structure than what came from the factory anyway.

I would be interested in knowing the shop as well. If it was done at a certain place in Bellingham, they really need to learn how to mount skis... it's an ongoing problem there that should not be tolerated.

Me thinks a little deep breathing is in order. The life of the skis is unaffected. Maybe if this was the 4th, 5th remount, but the first - no. Backing off the installed screws, reinstalling with shortened screws, with epoxy-maybe preclamped - will probably be at least as strong as the initial mount. As for the protrusion, look- every new ski should/must be base ground to insure flatness. And if you bought the skis & bindings online, and brought them to the shop to have them mounted, you'd never have the benefit of skiing a perfectly flat ski, right? The base grind will take off such a small increment of base, where it dimpled up from the screw, that you'd not wear that patch of base out in 10 years - because the base erodes next to the edges, where the rock and ice bruising occur. I'm sure the shop tech feels worse than you, but believe me, you haven't been damaged - just disappointed. Get over it. Happy Holidays!

I agree with Randy about remounting with shorter screws and epoxy, just so the screws don't show through the bases after several stone grinds. If ya keep em that long. Since the topsheet is metal it should not be as big an issue on the pull out factor as long as they tapped the topsheets properly. The problem is that they did not measure the Dynafit screws first...those Hardsides are pretty thin skis.
I doubt that on rando boots and dynafiddles that you will even notice the performance issues. If you go to a shop and run your hand down the bases, Many of todays ski base graphics have more raised plastic than your base dimples.
Just make lemonaid out of lemons and chalk it up to experience...
I have a pair of 2nd generation Gotamas that were dimpled on the mount, I was just as fumed and I got like $75 off on the deal. But I went out and won two more pairs of skis on them in comps. Dimples did not effect the performance and as a result I got two new pairs of boards. Not trying to brag, just prove a point that the disappointment is greater than the effect of the skis performance.

Here's a photo that might be a little more enlightening for some. And thanks for the comments - intersting to see so many different viewpoints out there . .
Honestly I'm not super bent about the skis themselves - trashed so many pairs in my day I see them as tools, not toys. I know they can be fixed and it will probably be alright. I also now that if you fuck something up you don't just fix the fuck up - you make it 'right'.
What I think it comes down to is the integirty of a business and how well they are willing to negotiate/communicate with a customer regarding something like this. I dropped the skis off on Tuesday with my name and phone number and talked to guy in the shop. Left specific instructions to NOT fix the skis until we worked out a deal that seemed fair to me (and to the shop) based on feedback I've sought from a variety of sources.
Instead I just got a voicemail that they are fixed and ready for me to come pick up - no mention of getting my money back on what I paid for the mount or any other form of minor compensation for the hassel and arguably reduced value of my sticks - just a "they look really good! We barely took anything off the bases."
Reduced valued = would you buy these skis off me now knowing their history?
