POLL: Botched ski mount - do I demand new skis?

Ive made the same mistake doing my own  skis. After taking screws out, grinding them shorter and reinstalling the dimples were still there! The problem is the core materiel where the long screws pushed through still supports the dimple.  Solution  A small ballpeen hammer with gentle taps to press base dimple and core materiel back. Regrind or file/sand  as needed. These repaired skis have seen a lot of peaks and lift days since with no issues.
Just saying in case someone here makes the same mistake at home .

I'd at least want mounting fee back , credit or future discount .

Had a similar encounter in October. Got a great deal on new skis from a rep and took them to the shop, the only shop in our city, and had them take a pair of barons off one pair of skis and mount them on the new ones which were twin tips. When I picked up the skis I could tell that they looked not right as the bindings were mounted almost in the center of the skis.
I told the tech that they looked odd and he showed me the manufacturer's mark which he said is boot center. I went back to the rep and he explained it is not boot center but ski center and the mounting point is measured from the tail at a set distance according to the companies specs which are in a referrence manual for shops that carry their skis.
I got the right mounting point and had the shop remount them correctly.
There was no extra charge for the remount, but now my new skis were drilled twice. This did not seem to be a concern to the shop and they also never admitted to the fact that they mounted the skis in the wrong place.
I thought any tech worth his salt could have noticed that he was putting AT bindings on a ski and that the middle of the ski was really an obvious place they shouldn't be. I guess it was a mistake on my part to be so trusting but I feel that shop intergrity , when found should be embraced and when not should be avoided at all costs.
That was the last time I ever spend a dime there.

There is absolutely no excuse for that happening at a shop performing the work for pay. Yea, you could do lots to fix them but you are not helping yourself, the shop, or orher customers by not playing hardball and demanding new skis.

I spent many years selling and working on skis, work like you show in the pic is non-professional. You get the service you demand...

I don't think you need new skis. They are 100% fixable, and you wouldn't even be able to tell anything happened. A stone grind barely takes any base material off. Yes, there are only so many base grinds a ski can have in its lifetime, but chances are you wont even grind them that many times anyway.

Like Joedabaker said, there are so many NEW skis that have die-cut bases that feel just like the dimples. Also, there are tons of snowboards out there that have the same effect. And they come with pre-drilled holes!

I do believe that the shop should fix the problem at no charge, and refund you for the mount. Or give you some store credit, of something. But all in all, they are skis. They are going to get way more scratched up (hopefully!), and you most likely won't even notice a performance flaw if you left them as is. We are human, shit happens. And we are all going to ski white fluffy stuff with smiles on our faces in the end. ;D

I'm not sure you should have a new pair of skis coming, but you should expect complete satisfaction on the repair, and no charge to you. It sure is a bad sign that they did not follow your instructions, and made no mention of the original mistake being there fault. I would expect them to be very contrite, and go to great length to make you happy. I would try and move my complaint further up the food chain.

Total agreement with T. Eastman.  And that they let the skis leave the shop in that condition is all I need to know.

What would you like to bet that they didn't do a remount but only ground the base.  Next time, core shows..
