POLL: Botched ski mount - do I demand new skis?

Wow...there must be a lot of people who have never made a mistake out there...
The skis are NOT ruined anyway....

First...do you people really expect a shop to replace the skis for a small botch like this?
Maybe if you spent the $1000 for skis and bindings with them to begin with...but not when you bring in your internet bargain for them to mount.

Did the shop mess up? Yep.
Are the skis ruined, or even compromised? Nope.
Fixing them and doing a base grind/stone grind is NOT going to reduce the useful life of the skis...get real. How many skiers here have ever had a pair of skis last so long they have worn through the base...nobody. . You will lose interest in the skis before you have them tuned that many times.(Who here has even used all the ink in a Bic pen???)

The shop should have offered to fix them properly and not charge you for anything.
They should even give you a couple free wax jobs, but to expect them to replace is unreasonable andridiculous.
In the end, if you don't like the work the shop does take your business elsewhere next time, but don't DEMAND new skis...it is unreasonable.
Things happen

I've never done an Internet poll before but I'm into. The relative anonymity (for some) really brings out the emotion. Thanks for the replies.

One last question: does anybody think that the "new skis" faction are generally folks who pay top dollar for their gear while the "deal with a repair, it's not a big deal!" faction are former or present ski techs?

No. Where you getting that from? I've paid way more for skis than anyone would pay for a pair of K2s and would give the shop a chance to fix the issue before demanding new skis. I'd definitely ask for some other schwag from them to acknowledge the screw up, but a new pair of skis strikes me overkill unless the fix doesn't work.

If the fix doesn't work, AND they don't make it right, then tell everyone you know how terrible they are or throw whatever other fit seems appropriate.

It's just a question . . . Not a personal attack

What difference would the answer make? Plently of people here agreed with you. Why question the motivations of people who didn't?

Keep in mind, the question wasn't whether or not the skis were repairable..

People do make mistakes, and we don't call them douches for that, but pity the shop that doesn't make it right in the eyes of that customer -  as filbo said, he never went back..

Perhaps a better question would have been "If you were the shop, what would you have done?"
