Where can I buy extra Verical ST toe plates?  I did a bit of searching, and I can't seem to find anyone in the states that sells dynafit parts online.

Here is the URL for Salewa North America. They are the distributer of Dynafit in the US. I have purchased spare parts from them. Great customer service and helpful, give them a call.

Good luck,

Gary

Just did a mount for a friend who had this problem with a set of Comforts - he wanted to zero out the delta as much as possible, but didn't want to give up the longer heel pins and preferred the shape of the Comfort top plate/volcano (he turns it by hand rather than using a pole).

We found a set of "orphan" TLT Speed heels and replaced the heel pins/top plate assembly with the Comfort ones. The heel pin height is now reduced by 10.5mm, pretty much eliminating the ramp angle . . .

Greg,

What's his reasoning for wanting to do that? Is he dissatisfied with the way the Sidestash performs? Are his binders mounted on the line? Thanks.

Interesting -- where's the lost height? Is the heel post on the old Speeds that much lower than the Comforts?

Ben and Marcus,

He's used to skiing an alpine binding that's pretty much flat, and felt the 10mm rise in heel height with the standard Comfort was affecting his positioning/skiing.

The combination of lower spindle and smaller heelpiece body add up to over 10mm less heel height in ski mode, measuring from the deck of the ski to the heel pins. I think most of the difference is due to the Comfort/ST bindings having a low position "ledge" molded into the plastic housing, while the Speed low position just puts your heel on the binding baseplate. This procedure is an alternative to sticking clunky risers under your toepiece to achieve less ramp angle, and lightens your setup instead of making it heavier. Of course, you have to locate a set of Speed heels - this didn't prove to be difficult, but would have been really simple if he'd asked me a couple months ago, as I would have already had them sitting in my basement!

The skis are 10/11 Waybacks, the color scheme happens to be the same as the Sidestash - mounted with boot center on the K2 engraved line, as were his previous Bakers. No problem with the way the ski handles, he just didn't like the feeling of being "up on tiptoes," which some people seem to be more sensitive to than others. I switch back and forth between a flat Duke and a heavily ramped Comfort every week and it doesn't seem to bother me.

Edit to add: If you already have Speeds, you could just replace the toe unit baseplates with Comfort/ST ones, but you wouldn't have the longer heel pins, which I think a bonus.
