Totally disagree with my friend SnowBell on  leaving a partner to go home alone. When you agree to to do a tour together you agree to look after each other  like the  "esprit de cordee" exhibited in mountaineering. That is why you must be careful in choosing partners with equal aspirations, experience and risk tolerance for a serious tour. However once the pact has been made ..it should be honored.

Unless your partner is a subborn Scotsman who insists you keep going while he turns around....

edit: RE TRACKS, if all people would just ski fall line, the issue of crossing tracks rarely comes up....

Here I agree with Snow Bell. While it frustrates me to see a party member ski over tracks in such a way as to not have as fun a downhill run as possible, I embrace their opportunistically crossing tracks to get an awesome run. There's an old Finnish saying, "every man likes the smell of his own farts." Not sure about that, but we do like to look at our own ski lines, but it's OK if we can't always pick them out to admire.

EDIT: I almost always ski fall line, but often cross tracks strategically, when following others.

I wanted to be the 100th post in this thread, is this some kind of record? Does it count if only half the responses are reasonable?

Well exactly... on that day.... I was not feeling it and don't like skiing or skiining above cliff bands and decided to turn around but You and Brit from my memory exhibited the correct protocol and offered to ski back with me but because my assesment of the risk involved in going back alone ( it was hardpack, spring, and the car was in sight) I felt OK with skiing back alone and insisted that I do so so as to not affect your tour.  You and Brit honored the " esprit de cordee".
I'm sure that had we been in some serious terrain with potential avy danger you would have insisted upon coming back with me despite my protestrations....no?
