I'll let Charles touch on the particulars, but I will not be turning it more commercial or taking on ads beyond the sponsorship system that's in place at the moment.

Hi Marcus, I wasn't suggesting you would as your are very much in sync with Charles's philosophy but IF you are the new OWNER presumably you could or you could sell it some time in the future.
I think its a valid question but understand I'm not entitled to an answer.

Thanks for your years of service, Charles.
This site has become a big part of all of our lives, and we are better for it. Not only has Turns-All-Year taught me much via trip reports and communal advice, but I've met some of my best friends through this website.
Welcome, Marcus, I'm sure things will continue to function smoothly in your capable hands!

You are all welcome, it has been my pleasure.
Regarding Scotsman's question: after the actual transfer of ownership to Marcus takes place (sometime this year), the whole site will be his to do with as he pleases. If he wants to pack it full of ads and become another wildsnow.com, he will be able to do that. I will have no more say.
Having said that, I'm quite sure that Marcus knows what people here want and don't want, and what any new owner would be risking by making a radical change such as packing in the ads.
When Marcus feels that his time as owner of the site is over, again he will be able to do whatever he wants with the site. I'm guessing that he will leave it in good hands.
