I wish I could do it and intend to join my friend JW at a telemark camp this March to try and learn.

In the original poster's defense, since he doesn't seem to be defending himself, he is new to the board and I don't believe his comments were meant to be taken as more than a joke.  Shortly after that comment, I skied with him and a teleskier together, and there were no comments or snipes about gear -- except my teasing of Silaswild's use of women's skis.

But you are all right.  It's time to move beyond skis, snowboards, and other artificial divisions.  Let's get back to the root of the sport - sliding down a snowy hill.  Here's a picture (not mine, credit Jeff Spann) of Zackalope demonstrating tele technique without the use of skis, on Heliotrope Ridge:

If you're charging, you're charging.  Plain and simple.  It's certainly true that tele is harder, but the end result is all that matters.
