Tele-what!?! was created by Moscawulff
Admittedly I don’t post here a lot; however I do lurk and read most threads. It seems at times the topics of conversation oscillate between friendly feuds and heated debates. To this I take a pacifist approach and discuss the topics with companion skiers on trips, rather than contribute my opinion here.

However, a comment made recently didn’t sit well and left a feeling of residual indigestion…now I feel obliged to upchuck it back to the forum.

Tele-gaper?!?

I’d rather my skiing technique be likened to putting lipstick on a pig rather than a gaper. It’s a term I use only in the most cynical context; i.e. someone sporting a 20 year old florescent pink pullover, turtle-neck, levi 501’s, rear-entry boots, and 210 cm planks at a yard sale on the bunny slope.

All I ask is for a little more respect, and I’ll gladly demand if needed.

Anyone looking for a partner this winter who thinks telemark isn’t on point is hereby encourage to contact me. I even have a spare set of planks to lend if you “heel inclined”.

By the way, for those who didn’t see “The Pact” this week (A Powderwhores tele production), there was an amazing segment on E.J. Poplawski, who lost his leg and is recovering back to the sport with a prosthetic. The film documented his determination through the physical therapy, his first days back on skis, and his progression back to one bad-ass free heeler. The most amusing part of the movie is while still shaky trying his new leg and being back on skis for the first time, he commented that he’d give alpine a shot. “Everyone knows Alpine’s easier, right?” he said, as he shredded up this debate like files at Enron with federal investigators knocking down the door.

I'll take you up on the tele offer... if you ride my board. Then we can test the theory of 'slow boarder' ;)

I respect everybody regarldess of their tools, unless they are tools.

Didn't see the pact, but it's on my list this year.

Interesting.
In the same post you take umbrage over someone using the term "tele-gaper" in a post and demand  more respect but in the same post you later make a point of referring to the somebody saying" we all know alpine is easier".

However, your point is well taken and neither forms of making our turns should be held in a derogatory fashion. Anybody that has seen the movie " the Pact" should be amazed at the grace and power of the telemark turn and the skill of these athletes, likewise for AT.

I wish I could do it and intend to join my friend JW at a telemark camp this March to try and learn.

I'm tired of splitboard v. alpine v. tele...

Time to start backcountry intertubing on a new level!

Chris, I can teach you all you need to know about tele-then I can watch the abuse at the same time.
One of those blow downs day at Crystal is perfect, so we can freeze to death on chair 9.
That will give you a head start on JW, unless he wants to join in the fun.
Free Telemark Lessons: The terms are: Blow down day at Crystal, also on a blow down day I can't tour at Crystal, no group more than 3 (4 total including me), I need to be in good health, no whining or crying a-loud, pictures allowed for me to post on internet.

Guess I missed the whole Tele-Gaper and name calling thing. Guess I don't really care what strangers call me, don't really need to defend myself or the sport. As the younger crew starts blowing by me, I then turn into the gaper, I guess??
