Any time during a holiday such as Christmas and New Years back to back, with college kids on break, kids out of school , Boeing off for two weeks etc, etc. You will have a huge crowd.

On top of that, you will have the CMAC kids training, out of state vacationers, first timers with their new Christmas gear, people who haven't skiied in years wanting to get back into the sport. Couple that with fresh snow, and you will have a huge crowd.

The only suggestion I have is to take your BC gear to a non-lift served area and hope for no crowds.

But, like PNW Brit stated if you look around you can find some really good skiing.

I have skiied at Crystal for 35 years, and still haven't covered all of the terrain.

Picture is of two CMAC kids training, having a good time despite the crowds.

I was there the same day and true if you stay on lucky shot you're gonna have to expect crowds.( It's the main easy run from the top, duh!)
However, Crystal is huge and on that same day that you were having so much angst , my buddy and I skied runs in the Northback and Southback where at times we where the only people in sight.
I guess you need to see the spaces between the trees and not look at the trees. ;)

Thanks for stopping in and saying hello (CH 6). It's always a pleasure to bump chairs for the TAY'ers. You guys are the most polite and friendly skiiers on the mountain. Obviously, you guys know how to beat the crowds.

Happy skiing to all of you TAY'ers and have a great 2010 ski season!!

See you at Crystal Mt.!!

Its true it has been chaos lately in the mountains as I have been working with the ski school nonstop for the past two weeks. For example on the 30th we had 33 1st time lessons between 3 instructors. On another note I wanted to mention that John Kircher (JK for short) has been doing some awesome things lately for Crystal and the industry in general. We just started a rover program which has a few ski and snowboard instructors running around the lower mountain helping out random people who are having a hard time picking up snowboarding/skiing. While we are getting paid the mountain is making no profit off it what so ever . But even more impressive is that he has been on the top of Discovery for the past two weeks helping people get off the chair for hours on end which any lift op will say is no easy task.

Now if only the freezing level will lower and things can get back to normal.

Careful Kyle I think praising JK around here will get you barred or black balled? Been seeing him around on the hill quite a bit. His bumping chairs and picking kids up off the unload ramp is great. As is the rover program. How selective can you be about who you assist? Has it led to you getting any hot dates yet  ;).

Bandit - thanks for many gentle loadings so far this season. There is a really good vibe among all your chair six colleagues this year. I was with Scotsman on Sunday. Oh and by the way nice turns down the lift line, but clearly if Xtal was your....

We ride around Discovery and Tinkerbell and it quickly becomes obvious who can use some help getting down. As for the hot dates I'm sure my girlfirend wouldn't mind.  ;)

By the way we skinned up to the Summit House under a blue moon for New Years and John Cocci got some amazing shots. Here is a link

PNW Brit,

Thanks for the compliment. You never know where the good snow may be, until you go out and seek it. I wish Link would go on a snow finding mission on a crowded day like you guys . It makes for an adventure and a method of getting away from the crowds.

As Lift Ops, we try our best to get riders on and off the lifts in the safest manner possible. In the same time frame , we like to thank and greet our paying customers, who are paying our wages.

Crystal Mt is a great place to ski and a great place to meet enthusiastic riders. We do like to bring a positive attitude to our workplace. It starts at the top. We have some great bosses, who want us to have as much fun as possible while working hard to please the paying customer.

Start the snow dances!!
