Craig, another fine missive.

1. Being a devoted weekender (not necessarily by choice) I have observed all the weekender behavior ad nauseam. Last weekend was indeed bad. Really bad, though no ladies tried to sit on MY lap, dammit, and I was fortunate enough not to end up under a chair while loading!

2. Having been a bartender in ski areas and elsewhere in the past I well know how trying the gaper public can be when hungry or thirsty. I really don't blame the cafeteria guys for being testy, although many seem to handle it just fine (at least on the outside).

I've become pals with a couple of the lot guys - probably the least appreciated employees on the hill IMHO - and they tell GREAT stories of guest misbehavior. The STUUUU nazi dude really is a bit over the top though. I just don't eat there anymore beyond a cup of coffee now and then, and thusly have no problems anymore.

Bring on the !@#$%^&* snow!

Now I know that a few of the BC ONLY TAY'ers look down their noses at we LIFT SLUT TAY'ers but they are missing out on the rich tapestry that your local ski hill affords you once you know it well enough to discuss the minutea and daily routines in such detail as this thread shows:

It takes commitment and a long apprenticeship, I think equal to the skills you require for BC touring.
The skills required to be a local are numerous.
1) learning the correct names to all the runs, and I mean all.
2) Learning the "lifties run" back to Northway to avoid the bumps.
3) Learing how to handle the Stu Nazi and get extra crackers.
4)Learning how to skate to the correct side of the Forest Queen lift on a busy day to make your wait shorter.
5) Learning to converse intelligently about all the other people's skis when on the quad.
6)How to call " single" and get to the head of the line on Chair 6- (advanced)
7) The correct line on the lower slopes to be able to ski right up to the Snorting Elk door.
8) Watching where Joedabaker goes so you can find his stashes.
9)Where the good places to pee are.

I could go on the list is endless and the learning curve long.

this thread is genius and entertaining. at the end of the day all i have learned is that i can't wait for retirement. that way i can be the end all critic of the of daily shenanigans that occur at this particular hill. (i'm just poking at you scotsman!)

i too agree that lot attendants have the best stories ever. you'd never guess how much preemptive gaper-ness occurs before the boots come on. good times. makes me wonder why i have a real job now.

campbells now sells soups in plastic containers that can be heated up. that may be a formidable option in lieu of the "stu nazi".

kuedo's to the staff at all mountains on days such as xmas, new years, opening day, MLK and President's day. god bless you and may you get many powder days midweek when not working your ass off.

Now that's got me thinking!

Campbells soup in a plastic container in my Avalung pack + Jet Boil + some kind of diverter valve set up and a shoulder mounted cracker crumbling system.......

Would mean Soup on the go! Plus I'd no longer need to carry a South London throwing star..

...as precautionary self defense against the Stuuu Nazi completely losing his cool if I should drift out of the prescribed Chowder approach path.

Is that a throwing star or cracker crumbling device . This may be a bit off topic, but I would like to the first to commend the lot attendants for allowing people to leave extra space between vehicles so we are not banging everyone with our car doors.I had a friend from Utah up and he was amazed at the extra space allowed compared to his home mnt........On a more serious note, this extra cracker situation just doesn't seem right .Are you sure you said please, perhaps, just maybe,it was only thank-you.Witch is fine and all but would explain why you came up short on crackers.
