Nice to see your TR and photos.  We have been there numerous times in spring for tours starting at the hut. During the week it was deserted, other than the folks that broke in your car at the trail head. I assume BC Parks have "fixed" that problem. ;)
I enjoyed your photos of the area. We have always skied in this area in the spring so it is nice to see what is under the snowpack. ;)
BC Parks claims that the hut sleeps 33: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/garibaldi/

Until the two of us headed outside on Saturday night, there were at least three people sleeping on the floor. It's a nifty place; everyone was friendly, it's just busy, and different people have different evening goals. With the good weather, camping offered space and superior views. In a storm, it'd be cramped.

We didn't see anyone enforcing chain-up rule...
Thank for the report. The cabin's popularity has gone through the roof, weekends are insane. Just for your info, sometimes the BC Park rangers stand by the snow chain sign, and if you don't have them you have to park in the lower parking lot.
Wow what a fun packed weekend! Thanks for all the info. Were there really 34 people in the hut?
Found some of that up in the Duffey last weekend, too. Luckily, the snow beneath it seemed bomber.
Those are awesome. Definitely the leader in the PNW snow-crystal photo scavenger hunt of 15/16.
Great photographic specimen, thanks for posting.  Worth an NWAC observation report.
Bittersweetly, once in a while I hear myself saying, thank God it's gonna rain this week.  So we can get on with the real snowpack commencing!
Look like beautiful crystal death ninja throwing stars.
Woah, nice hoar. Hopefully you don't get that often.
Nice!  I made it out to Hurricane Hill today (nov 29) - scant coverage but I managed a few turns before it turned into rock :-)
I saw a couple people with bikes on the Obstruction Point road as I was driving up...might have been easier than skinning!

Did you use your bike, or just skis and feet?

Yea, it looks like one could almost used a bike but it's better than last year.

E99ed (action verb) out to Waterhole today....nice track in there now for those that like that kind of pain.  Cranked and survived a few turns below Steeple in the sun! Maybe I can make it to Obst next round if there...
Did you use your bike, or just skis and feet?
Nice production work! loved all the creative shots. oh yeah and the pow!  ;D
Thanks for the report.
Might look for that track on Monday. Good work finding the good stuff. Amazing how in perfect conditions things can stay fresh for so long! I gotta check elevations but maybe you were low enough to be somewhat out of the inversion and it stayed cooler.
I got some surprises lurking up here for you by midweek. This place is going to be off the hook and uncrowded.
Very nice!!!! No doubt you guys go get it a lot.
Day we skied, a week ago, we turned around at top of Palmer lift. Rain event had completely glazed the mountain. It looks like a bit of snow fell there several days ago, which might provide a few stashes between the hard stuff. Perhaps others have been up since and can comment.
Did you summit? Heading down there tomorrow to ski, but maybe take the skis off for a summit push. How did it look?
I was there too and went back to Avalanche Basin yesterday(24th) and 6" of low density new lay above 5,600'. We skied the chutes north of Brain Damage and stopped about 200' below the ridge due to firm crust below. Consistent depth from 6,700 down to Elizabeth Lake made for great laps.
You do get around! Thanks for the TR for Rogers, and White Pass,  we often go to Rimrock for Thanksgiving and get a ski in to justify all the eating!
They are making snow and considering running the lifts on Saturday.
Good clean fun! It may have been a bit scratchy under the 5-7" of new snow, but it was more fun than hiking (which is already pretty fun). And what a beautiful area. There was a moderate size crowd of cars at the upper lot, but we still had that bowl all to ourselves for the early afternoon, with another group deciding to go up there only after we exited back out to see all the intriguing up and down tracks on the north face of Table. Thanks for a great day out, Skip - just what I needed be...
Well done Lowell.

So sorry for your loss.  What an amazing person Steph was.

Roads! Access is such a roadblock.
thanks for the report. Bummer about the road washout.
NICE..THANKS  FOR THE REPORT
Beautiful pics Norse, great day out with you and Z.

Let's do it again sometime soon... maybe when I'm over my Longmire gate angst.  (945!?!)
Just skinned back up both times.  Getting through looked quite adventurous, and we didn't have much reason to since we were based out of camp.
^^ Ah. We could just barely spy your tracks from the Cowlitz rocks!

So... did you skin back out around the top? Or find some other way through the glacial gnar?
Amazing weather on the big one this weekend!  To add to the Muir report, a friend and I found some surprisingly good skiing in the cirque above/across from camp, as well as down the Cowlitz a ways on the skier's left flank.  A more wise and patient local we met was waiting for one more good dump before crossing over towards Cathedral Gap.  Once across, at least, things were straight forward with great snow.

Let's hope for more.  The 'typical' route said local menti...
I would recommend Hood over Bachelor right now, chiefly due to the fact that Bachelor has their uphill policy in effect (they are getting the mountain ready to open and aren't allowing uphill travel outside the Cinder Cone until operations are underway).....
Great writeup David! Thinking of heading down there for the long weekend. Did you summit Hood? Think it's ready for that sort of thing yet? Would you recommend Hood over Bachelor? I've never been to Bachelor...
Thanks for the trip report. My wife and I are planning a trip to Iceland. It looks like you might be in Portland, if you're up to it, I'd love to chat about your trip over a beer sometime.
Dang. I knew I should've hoofed it up there for the weekend as soon as I hopped out of the car at Heather Meadows Sat. morning and the thermometer read 40F and the NWAC telemetry was reporting 45F atop Pan Dome. But with no one willing to tag along, I wasn't feeling up to a solo adventure this early in the season.

I was worried about the road skinning, esp. after last week's storm. USFS report did say the road was driveable to the Yellow Aster Butte TH but it could be a...
WOW!  Stunning photos...thanks
Have you tried using a moving average to smooth out the points?  That might make it a little easier to read.
Good times, SP!
Great day at White Pass!  GnarB captured the day nicely!  Special thanks to Rick and WD for showing us what rocks not to hit on the way out!  :)
Thanks, Cascade Kid. I was there in early August, and the patches were much smaller. Did you run into Jokull Bergmann (JB) while you were there? He operates Arctic Heliskiing, and is UIAGM-certificated. He's a GREAT guy, and I'm looking forward to returning foir a Solstice Tour week in a few years...

Whoa. Thought there'd have been more snow in Silver!
And, the temperature/elevation plot. It's way more complicated, as we passed into and out of the sun many times, and I set my pack down on the snow (hence the low-temperature points at the summit). The upshot? It was warm and inverted.

I'm still working to move the colorbar to horizontal. It'll happen, but not tonight.
My two partners observed tracks departing the col that day and wondered who might have made them. Bittersweet to now know the story. Thanks for sharing.
Thx for the per-usual informative and amusing TR! Looks better than Hood, but a far cry from three weeks of powder-tuesdays, even if it was sunny...
Really spectacular photos on your Smugmug site!  Thanks for the great trip report!
Thanks for the great TR, it all looked like the perfect adventure!
