Last week lots of mud one mile in. Enough to stop a non big truck. I'd guess you could get some further but wouldn't count on it.
Hopefully someone else has pushed past the mud in a 4 by and knows.

We booted the ridge directly to false Baldy, hitting solid snow at about 5,400 ft where summer trail enters meadow to climbers right. After the lap in the center bowl, we skied down same ridge to same place.
Next time I'd probably skin up the meadow to inspect it for a descent. Given lack of vis, we stuck to the ridge and up-route on the down.

Your photos are always incredible! Long time admirer
Great! That one has been on my list. Was there skiing before the ridge over to Baldy? Hard for me to recall how much vertical there is after that.

Why'd you stray from the summit? Timeline? Rad photos!
There was a short steep rock bit at the top that I wasn't comfortable with. Like the last 15 feet.
Coron sent me some photos... Thanks Coron! Here are my favorites:
Thank you for report and good pictures.
Best crew of the season in my opinion!!!!!
Indeed, Kamtron - perfected my survival skiing for 25 years in northern New England.
Here's a (very similar) trip report with embedded pics (!) .. sorry for my tech spaz going on above. http://bcinne.blogspot.com/

Oh yes! I teach a study abroad class to Japan every year and I've been wanting to ski Fuji-san. Thanks for the report, unfortunately I go there in September usually so the amount of snow is a smallish number.
The motivation from the pictures makes me say arigato gozaimasu.

Any idea how far you could get up Stafford Creek?
Nice work all around. Such a good place!
Thanks Zap!
FYI for everyone - this is a totally doable weekend trip if you ever happen to find yourself in Tokyo with your gear on a April or May weekend!

Pizzas or pictures, glad to be of service ;D
Muchas gracias!

Thanks Mike! All my old Silver Star trips (none in at least 8 years) were just like that (never mind one gnarly wayward uphill route-finding exception). Thanks for the memories. I wondered if she was still in as I froze to death biking the road at 6 :30 AM last Sunday.
very cool trip and post. love the milky way pic w the the tent in the foreground. nice effort all around!
Just when I needed a shot of pizazz, you delivered ! Thanks !

Thank you all for your kind feedback, glad you enjoyed the report and pictures. By no means do we set any speed records on our trips - there is so much to explore and ski and photograph to just fly by it in one day. Really a stunning area. Kinda bummed about the huts - it will be less of a wilderness experience and more crowded in the future.
Hi Pinch! Nice to meet you on Baker and thanks for taking our pics, too!

Thanks for the info, it does sound like earlier may be better down there, for ski conditions and insect avoidance. The Southern Oregon Cascades mosquitoes are deserving of their own horror movie.
Wonderful report, as usual, with pictures to match, sounded like the perfect pace to see it all and do it all thanks.
Looks good, the PP (preserved powder) shot of Coron is perfect.
Thanks for the report and the pics, Adam.
Welcome to TAY.

The pics in the TR are visible just fine now! Thanks for fixing it.
Very nice! I did this trip in 2007 with my wife and we both remember it fondly.
Good to hear that it is still not that crowded. That might change with the new hut plans that were recently approved, http://www.spearheadhuts.org/spearhead-huts-given-final-approval-receive-park-use-permit/.
First on the plan is replacing Russet Lk hut and having is open by winter 2018.

Great to read your trip report and photos. About 20 years ago, I was Japan for business and took my backcountry gear. The weather was bad so I cancelled the climb today. Your "team" was great. ;)
Thanks for the report. But all the pics are broken and not publicly viewable, at least for me on a Mac (tried viewing in both Safari and Chrome), and even trying to view the images URLs at googleusercontent.com directly in a new window did not work.

Awesome pics and great TR! Looks like a fantastic trip.

How far down were you able to ski off of Eldorado?
All the way to the end of the boulder field.
Other notes: Bergschrund on the Boston side of Sharkfin was crossable on a bridge that may melt out soon. Big question is, Will the lake melt out before the road reopens?
Did you get a chance to yo-yo the hiway ? Fun, short and popular. Thanks for the reminiscence . X
No, unfortunately gave up on touring due to the rain and relatively low snow pack at the highway. You roll the dice I suppose.
Was cool to see the airborne sports people do down there (paragliding, kite skiing and such).
great pics and write-up as always!
cool to see the spearhead broken up over four days- I've been wanting to ski that under a similar schedule with enough time to bag a bunch of the side peaks. Spearhead is a day is great fun but for non-racer types you don't have much time to dilly-dally with side trips or laps. Two days just kinda sucks...you're slowed down by the overnight gear but still don't have a ton of spare time for yo-yos... i gotta t...

Thanks for the Diamond report. Considering heading down there later this spring - surprising to hear that the snow level is already that high. I figured that they had decent accumulation in those parts, but I guess it was a warm winter. Do you figure the upper slopes (above treeline) will still be good in late May?

Nice report. Stuff like that keeps pushing me to finally do that route that I've seen from so many angles most of my life.

Amazing photos. I was part of that Pro Guiding Service group. Still can't get the expanse of the mountains there, out of my head. Glad your trip was as fun as ours.
Ha! Ulrichs is actually more bark than bite. Air is totally optional.
With a consolidated snowpack n-s would be much more efficient. I can't imagine doing it n-s in the conditions we found. All the ups would have been too steep to skin with the breakable crust (too icy) yet not boot supportable. We would have been knee deep through the crust... Ugh. That said, with a solid snowpack it would be amazingly efficient.
Solid work getting that done in a day! It sounds like running it N->S would have been easier skiing and skinning?
Congrats on a great ski. Are you another VT transplant, moxie802?

South side of Stu rules! Did you ski Ulrich's Penoyar?
No it was our first time up there on skis and the Cascadian was in such perfect condition we couldn't justify the hazard of exploring Ulrich's. It looked ready to go though! Keep your speed up to clear the mandatory air on the lower cliff band.
....long way in ....I'll say! Earl Peak looks close enough for me. I'm too used to lift skiing to have that much approach juice in me. But on the other hand, several thousand feet of good corn😎😎😎
HAFE, yikes--that stuff can be fatal ;) .
Yes, the pic links need work, but opening in a new window yielded results--looks like a great day!

I can't see the pics for some reason (on a Mac). Sounds like you hit it perfectly, which is oh so rare.
