They had an old subaru key (take note other owners of older subarus) opened the door, started it and drove 6 blocks. Parked legally and walked away (?). Left everything in the car. They did jam the ignition so I couldn't start it but everything looked OK. We'll know better next week after the ignition switch is replaced. Pluses and minuses here, I was thinking I would buy a new outback and new gear. Late retirement gift to myself, that plan is gone now. Sigh. Thanks for the good thoughts.

I feel your pain.
A few years ago I had a 1980 Subaru that was stolen from outside my house in Wallingford. It was empty except for trash, and it had a failing clutch, severe oil leaks, and an exhaust leak that was made worse by a stuck-shut driver side window. I was pretty happy it was gone.
Sadly I couldn't afford to replace it for 1-2 paychecks and in the meantime, it was found in Queen Anne, battery dead, cigarette ashes all over and a big green loogie on the dashboard.

Green, ski racks, white TAY sticker on upper left back window, NWAC and Wallowa Alpine Huts on the upper left back window. 673-NDL, or at least that's what my plates are.
