RonL - Was the club installed on your wife's Saturn when it was stolen? I just got my 1996 Subaru back after it was stolen 2 1/2 weeks ago and was thinking of getting a club but am wondering how effective they are. I'm also considering a battery cable anti-theft switch and would appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Anything that makes the theft slower and harder is a good thing.
- The club on the steering wheel is virtually pointless (I read).
- The club on the clutch pedal is effective provided it cannot be shifted to the side and pulled out.
- The Battery cable anti-theft switch is not terrible (if provided with a bypass to keep your radio stations saved), but it is hard to hide. Only so much battery wire between the battery and the starter.
- Last, but most recommended: A hidden disconnect switch, breaking the circuit to your fuel pump relay (the low voltage side) and or starter or other key ignition circuits. I have a truck where I simply pull the fuel pump relay in. No way to start it unless you are clever or are near a parts store and know what to look for. Downsides include loosing your fuel pump relay and not being able to start your *own* car. This has only happened to me twice so far, cough cough.
One other option is a chain through your wheel and A-arm with a big lock.

I also like the hidden switch that interrupts the power to the fuel pump relay. If done right it can take a long time to track down. Only problem is when the thieves are pissed off and torch your car. As happened to me at the Elfin Lakes parking lot out of Squamish. But for keeping dirtbags from stealing your car in Seattle it can be pretty effective. I hear of a lot of older cars getting stolen in Seattle and found within a five mile radius.

My car was stolen in Issaquah and recovered in Wallingford. A near full tank of gas allowed for 3 trips across the 520 bridge (I just got the toll bill today). A shaved key was used and fortunately it didn't damage the ignition switch. They even left a nice set of jumper cables in my car. Go figure.
