As a new owner of a FWD that I fitted good snow tires too, I don't get why AWD get a free pass when there are tonnes of SUVs and even Subarus that clearly have bad tires fitted. They still need to stop and steer down the other side. I had to chain up last Saturday although I didn't think traction was ever an issue.

if you have to put chains on a subaru or audi then you fit into the ass clown / bonehead category that should stay home in these types of storms.

my takeaway after getting skunked both sunday and monday is that i'm not even going to attempt to shred during these snow whoppers on weekends or holidays. it ain't worth it to me. better off doing honey do's / work stuff so i can play hookie mid-week.

one of the biggest storm of the season and i'm seeing jokers fill a car with tubes to go sledding. w da f?!?!?!

my other takeaway....getting a cabin pronto!

As this just skipped to page 2 let me clarify. If X=more and y=less then X-Y= less than X. I'm pretty good at algebra because I took it twice. Skier who got through is a grat idea though. We should make stickers. <X = Chair2POW

i understand chair2pow and deep snow driving but not much else.
truckers are total assholes during shitty road conditions and going uphill in the passing lane.

It made sense to me having flunked Algebra twice and I wrote it after my 3rd tall glass of Merlot. One of these days we'll meet in lot 4, I'll explain it to, and then we both won't understand.

As a resident of Hyak and I am driving in the snow mess ALOT, the biggest problem I see to the snow roads is the truckers.

yeah that is why I advocate no trucks over 10,00 GVWR during the highest traction warning.  Seriously this should be a law, it would solve a lot.

GlendMcc - Look into Z chains, they will fit most places that car manu's like to say they won't.

Timbat - Agreed, any 4wd truck, AWD SUV found in the ditch or blocking I-90 should get an immediate tire inspection from the trooper. No snowflake and inadequate tread depth = nastier fine.

Global recommendation: BUY NOKIANS! Drove through knee deep snow in the middle of the Hyak parking lot today on those tires.

The early bird gets the worm.

And as I learned from the great Dr. Frankenstein, early birdism begins with a sleeping bag, a camp stove and some pop-tarts (to cook in the pot for pop-tart soup), even for the valley residents.

If I miss the storm for a day, it's nobody's fault but mine.
