The Camp Speed is for both climbing & skiing and the second lightest helmet on the market, don't even notice it at less then 10oz.

Ran across this article discussing the BD Vector, Vapor, and the Petzel Sirocco, it has some useful information about head coverage: www.dicksclimbing.com/blogs/news/8004953...ond-vector-this-year

I did the climbing helmet thing for a while, but it wasn't nearly as comfortable as my ski helmet and it was kind of an ordeal dealing with a hat under the helmet and getting it to work with goggles.

I've since decided that I'm OK with the 8oz. weight difference (10 oz vs 18oz on my scale) to have an easy helmet to pop on and have 100% confidence in its protection. One of the sub 10oz helmets that were designed with skiing in mind would probably change my mind on the subject, but $100 is a lot of money when I could stand to shed a few lbs from my natural "pack weight"...

The climbing helmet looks way better in photos when you're wearing a harness ski touring...

I have a pulse and I don't wear it for skinning in most circumstances as it is quite warm, but it is ok for shorter sections when I want the protection. It also has a very oblong shape to it, which works quite well for my purposes. I don't have the ear flaps and just wear a cycling headband to keep my ears warm. When spring roles around, I will bring my bike helmet skiing, but that obviously isn't climbing rated.

the smith maze is advertized as 11.5 oz and is a full on ski helmet. I have it at home and will try to remember to weight it for actual weight. venhilation looks lousy but should work to store it in the pack until the down.
