I would download a template here:
www.techinfo.bindingfreedom.com/Binding_Templates.html
I have templates for each binding I use, printed out on clear overhead projector film, cut for my BSL on a papercutter and taped together. They work perfectly and seem just as accurate as the jigs at the shop if used carefully. Bindingfreedom's templates have centering marks so you don't have to draw a center line on the ski unless you're really anal (I don't). As mentioned above, mount the toes first and check for alignment, do the progressive screw tightening thing if you need to center the boot, then push the non-adjustable heel up to the boot with your 4mm spacer in place to mark the heel holes (I use an icepick rather than a thin Sharpie). Piece of cake.
Again, read Lou Dawson's instructions on Wildsnow.com for the part about mounting and centering the toepieces, it's specific to what you are doing. The thread on TGR includes lots of ranting and info on every binding under the sun.

If you mount your own skis just make sure you are comfortable being able to determine how the ski should fall away from you in order to execute kick turns properly. I notice tons of Dynafit skiers that have less-than-ideal mounting positions on their BC skis. It's easy to identify: if the tail does not drop immediately upon lifting the knee, the mount is not efficient. Rule of Thumb: Measure ten times, drill once. But first, get the balance dialed.

Re: balance points -- I'd rather have my ski ski well than kick-turn well. A proper upward toe-flick and almost any ski will come up to your knee; it is certainly convenient to have the balance be tail-heavy. I haven't had a problem with kickturn ski balance when mounting on boot center. The smaller your feet are, and perhaps the longer the ski, the more likely a ski will tip shovel-heavy.
Are there any skis where boot-center, as marked, yields unpleasant touring balance?

I'm with Charlie on this one. There's more to mount point than checking to see that the tail of the ski drops. How it skis and whether you can kick turn without stepping on your lower ski are equally important. I bet a lot of those Dynafit skiers are using skis with inserts and just picking the set of holes that corresponds to their BSL.

Did the mount myself with the Wildsnow template... after some 2x4 practices. Seems to have come out great, pretty much dead on. Thanks for all the advice.
Haven't skied them yet, I'll update if I take them out and all the bindings rip off on my first run.
If any other mounting newbies have questions about it, let me know
In other news, my buddy got his brand-new V8's mounted at Evo. The toe piece ripped out on the third day he took them out. Looking at them, one screw in the toe piece didn't match. When he took them back to Evo, they said they thought the mount was fine and refused to help with it. Don't go there for your tech mounts.
