Comfort was even better - if the volcano broke, the metal top plate underneath didn't break with it.

Come on guys, it's not like this is the first time that there have been problems with bindings. There's always going to be a few glitches with a big change in design and as long as they take care of it I don't see it as a problem. Let's not be scared of new innovation.

Clarification;
I was told at REI today that the reason Dynafit did not replace the bindings under warranty is due to their agreement with REI’s bulk purchasing of their product, not because they refused to warranty the product. REI exchanged my bindings for the new model and remounted them free of charge.
Hopefully the new model is a bit more durable, thanks REI for replacing them.

Hmmm, big enough to be "self-insured" I guess . . .

Dropped my skis off at Marmot today and they are going to replace both heel pieces now so I don't have to wait for the other one to break before getting it fixed. The only bummer is that they have to send the heels into Dynafit and wait for replacements, so it'll be a couple weeks.
Looks like I'll be touring on my skinny spring skis until then...should be entertaining for anyone that skis with me.
