I am currently rocking this jacket from Norrona. Very long and athletic fit.
Perfect for skinning.
I love it.
Plus it gives me that Scandinavian Steeze that is so sought after ! ;D

I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet, but Polartec neo-shell seems to have a lot of potential for this area.

Same with Mountain Hardwear's Dry-Q garments. Fabric characteristics seem ideal for warmer (soggy) conditions.

Marmot recently informed me that they no longer sell helmet-compatible soft shells. I had returned my 2005 helmet-compatible soft shell 3 times for zipper repair -- they finally kept my jacket and sent me TWO replacement Hero jackets -- but the hoods are too small.

>>>paste>>>
"Unfortunately none of the hoods on any of our jackets are compatible with ski helmets. There are a couple of reasons that we do this. The main reason is that for a hood to adequately cover an entire ski helmet, it has to be either very very large, or have some type of extra gasket that can be zipped open/closed to increase the volume of the hood. Making the hoods large enough just means that when you don't have a helmet on, they end up being way too big for your head and it ends up blocking your vision. With the gasket, you end up with a lot of additional weight and bulk around the collar of the jacket, not to mention the additional expense and complication of the jacket's construction. The second reason that we don't make ski helmet compatible hoods is that we feel that a ski helmet coupled with a high collar, and possibly a balaclava, provides sufficient protection from the elements, rendering a hood unnecessary.

If there's a different jacket that you would like to try, we can offer you 50% off of any of the ones we make.
