This bill appears similar to the one we worked with in Colorado. Without a law like this, the ski areas will continue to plead with the rope jumpers to never do it again and again, and again...
A few publicized arrests will likely be a reasonable deterrent for skiers choosing to enter closed areas within ski areas' permit zones.

Well, well, well... I told Y'all this guy had some juice.. Freeski, that is, not Marcus Price.
Thing is, this Marcus guy is an inbounds guy who ducked a safety barrier and then rejected the cost of his education.
Freeski, I appreciate much of what you had to say and where you're trying to go with it. Keep it up, and best wishes

Who do they charge if it's a body recovery that spills into overtime?

Interesting post, Freeskiguide
I doubt that Marcus will benefit much, as already pointed. However, I do think that indeed he should not have been asked to pay for a couple of extra SAR hours. More appropriately, I'd think that while he should have been 'saved' without any questions, there should be some ability to fine him for a much higher sum for ducking the ropes...
Anyway, I'd like to hear when pro guides make bad decisions. If / when I am considering such services, I have a right to know the record and what other people in the profession thought. I don't think this information should be covered. The pro guide should have the ability to defend him / herself, of course.
Cheers
Ivo

I'd hate to think that someone might postpone calling for help in a timely fashion because they're suckered-in by someone else's outrage and conjecture.
Crystal Mountain Inc. does not have a "pay or we won't come" policy.
But I hope that doesn't stifle discussion--I'm all for people talking about what we all can (should) do to take care of ourselves so we don't become a burden to other individuals, private companies, and public agencies!

I also have to question Crystal ‘s pay or we won’t come policy.

Now that's very confusing. Let's say hypothetically that Marcus Price had stated "No, I won't pay" when Crystal patrol told him that he would need to pay rescue costs ("Before starting the rescue we clearly explained to Marcus that he would be responsible for the cost of the rescue."). What would you (Crystal patrol) have done? If he states ahead of time that he is unwilling to pay, is he off-the-hook for costs? What if he says that he can't pay and would rather not be rescued (thus risking death from exposure overnight)? Do you leave him there, or rescue him for free?
Please explain your policy, because there appears to be a major logical flaw / inconsistency going on here. By the way, I'm a Crystal passholder, and just curious what the rescue policy is. I've actually never ducked a rope or skied a closed area at Crystal, and don't intend to, so I'm unlikely to end up in Marcus' situation.
