Missing Skier Crystal Today 3/1/11

Huge thanks to patrol for an outstanding job integrating a very skilled and motivated bunch of skiers into your operations. An amazing effort is underway @ Crystal right now.

Checked with Crystal patrol and tickets will not be provided. Just FYI for your planning purposes. Might suggest calling first to see if you have any special skills/resources that can be of value (i.e. SAR experience, Avy dog, Recco receiver, ....).

You can just show up at the door and say you are interested in helping with the search.  Or call 360-663-3060.

I just talked to somebody at the ski patrol and she said they are still interested in having volunteers search (e.g. Sunday). She said you can check in with the ski patrol at any time. They want to keep track of where searchers are looking, but you don't have to be there at any particular time to participate.

A friend of mine, John Welcher,  knows Melby pretty well and was the last person up on a lift with him....I think around 2 or 3 PM. Sounds like the most likely scenario is that he is caught in a tree well since there was no evidence of slides in the area. Best of luck to you guys tomorrow.

Hello Murrmeister,just want to clarify some info about our friend Paul Melby. I rode up the rex chair with Dino and Paul around 11:30 am on tuesday. I've informed the ski patrol of this. Lets keep our eyes open for anything that might help.  :'( Hey Murrmeister can you reveal your identity?

Big thanks again to everyone who has come out to search for Melby. If you're skiing Crystal today or this week, please stay vigilant for any surface clues. We're hoping for a break since the forecast is calling for fair weather and possibly warming temperatures. Please, please PLEASE keep your eyes on the trees!!
