This thread appears to me to be a problem solving dialogue, I am very impressed with all of you.
AND...for the record, I do not care if people skin up an (open) ski area however, I feel that the folks that paid for the 'right' to ski DOWN the hill have some kind of expectation that they CAN do that safely and that the ski area has agreed to allow that so (the ski area) is liable (in my view) in ANY type of accident between a skinner/hiker and a downhill skier/snowboarder. Despite any case law.

We'll see if I get arrested when I buy a lift ticket AND skin up the mountain at Beech Mtn, NC, next month. I checked their web page and none of the rules prohibit it, although I'm only doing it briefly to test some new kicker skins during a day my son and I will be downhill skiing. I'll stay off to the far edge of the slope and try to avoid running over the tails of ski patrol ski's... I sure would love to see the look on their face though, and the deputies, when they'd ski down and have to catch the lift to catch up to me again, that must have been PRICELESS.

First Doug, now Roland, I feel sorry for any skiing icon that ventures into that boundry.

Not that I don't like Ski Patrollers, but as a skier, I am legally and morally obligated to hate them. Besides, I would expect no better behavior out of them. When someone of lower intellect is given a perceived authority, and is then presented with a situation that requires intellect, adrenaline and testosterone quickly surpass said intellect....... then ignorance and anger take over.

If a skinning party is organized in support of Roland, I would sure do my best to make it! A 78 year old Human Tractor should be treated better!

Nice first post, probably just a troll.  Anyhow, if you get injured on the hill, I'd be hard pressed to help you with an attitude like that even tough as a "lower intellect" patroller I would be obligated to do so.
