It seems kinda silly to enforce this rule on someone skinning up the mtn., yet allow snowboarders (just an accurate observation --not a hater) to line up sitting on their butts 5 or 6 abreast on most cat tracks, runs, chair line entrances, etc at most ski hills across the nation. You want to discuss the risk of this ? Lower profile (sitting not standing), facing downhill oblivious(blind, deaf (due to the head phones or my personal favorite the speaker equiped backpack) to what is behind them and so on.

Seriously ! Let's pull ourselves together !

It seems similar to the "no cell phone in your car", but feel free to smoke while you are eating a sandwich washed down with a diet soda while you put your makeup on driving.

I am against this too (the law I mean) ! ;D

What is the real difference between a person standing still on the side of the trail and a person walking up the hill at 2mph on the side of the trail? I don't see a big difference. Am I missing something?

One paid for a lift ticket, the other did not. When you buy a lift ticket you agree to the conditions of that ticket. If you simply hike up the mountain you make the ski area more liable for possible lawsuits. Same reason ski areas don't allow people to go sledding on the slopes when they are closed with their kids. Someone gets hurt then ambulance chasing lawyers show up.

When was the last time you got beligerent and loud with a cop/ski patrol/lawyer/judge/politician/security guard/bouncer and found that it "worked?"

Now that you're screaming and/or ignoring my instructions, I see your point and have changed my mind. Carry on.

You're not doing it right.

LOTS of issues here.

I don't see anything wrong with skinning uphill at a resort. But I can also see how ski patrol has to be wary of their employer's liability. And I think that's the key here. Yes, it is Forest Service Land, but the ski area is administering it. I may be wrong but I think this is the equivalent of enforcing 'quiet time' in a state park.
The dude is an original investor in the resort. Is that why they offered him a ticket? I've had my pass punched once or twice back in the day, gotten belligerent and NEVER was offered a free pass.
I don't think skinning is unsafe. I reject the resort/patrol's argument about someone out of control hitting him because in that instance the resort can deny liability. On the other hand: dude's a jerk.
I agree with the comment about youngsters blocking the off load area. It's something we've had to learn to deal with as 'boarding has gotten popular. And this leads me to conclude that uphill skinners should be allowed on resort land as this too would be another hazard we could learn to deal with.

Ooh Boy, it's been a looong time since we've had good snow!  Don't you think we're all taking this a little seriously?  OMG , he violated JHR's policy.... but perhaps not actual Wyoming code?  The keystone cops meets the 'powder pig' patrol; excuse me, I didn't mean to insult any powder pig ski racers.  Looking at Jackson's trail map, the NASTAR course is a two lift ride up the middle of the area, in a sea of blue runs. Because most intermediate skiers have by this time in their skills progression learned to turn and hockey stop, and to avoid running into standing snow making equipment, standing skiers kibitzing in the middle or along the sides of runs, as well as avoid misc. bamboo poles, fences and machines, trees and signs, presumably they were in little risk of being over run by the good Doctor.  Since he was only heading up to watch his dear granddaughter's ski race, and presumably thought he might grab a little exercise on the way up, he probably wasn't expecting a major confrontation either.   I have to say, if I were in his shoes I'd have been every bit as cranky, and would have pulled as many sanctimonious chains as possible.  Or, I'd call in PNWBRIT to forerun for me!
