I agree and sometimes, it is aggravated by people who choose to drive safer than they need to. In Eastern Washington, most drivers get snow and know how to react. In Western Washington some drivers see a snowflake and drive into a telephone pole.

The ones who drive cautiously up the hill need to consider that they are going 10-15mph under the speed that the conditions allow. I realize that this is subjective to the individuals comfort and experience. But Look in the rear view mirror and then look ahead of you. If there is no one in sight in front of you, but it looks like a funeral procession behind you, YOU are the cause of the problem no matter how safe you think you are driving. Drivers will get agitated and try to get around you. Hence the agro reputation. Some folks are just plain agro and that is just not good anytime in any condition.

For those that fear driving in the snow...
When you can see water coming off the tires, of the car in front of you or hear water spinning off your tires and the road is black there probably is not going to be any ice even if it's snowing so it's OK to speed up.

I think WSP's point is that people are speeding, not just that they are trying to pass someone who is more cautious or afraid of the conditions. Sometimes drivers think they have the right to speed and that anyone who is obeying the limit is obstructing their progress. I think a lot of drivers don't know or even care what a posted speed limit is.

I think they're concerned with general bad judgement. There are safe places to pass. If I was concerned with "getting a good parking space" or "getting first tracks" at Steven's I'd wake up earlier.

It's funny that this is brought up.
I was thinking this yesterday in my travels, that if authorities wanted to get their cities out of the red, but fill their courts they could ticket nearly everyone because really very few actually drive to the letter of the law including myself.

I know here we go again...
At Crystal the Boulevard is 35MPH, but for the most part 410 is 55mph. I drive 5 over, Maybe 3-4 over in Greenwater.
It's funny and sad that people will drive 5-10mph under the 55 limit on dry pavement on 410, but the same driver when they get to the Crystal Boulevard they drive 10-15mph over the speed limit on snow or ice.
Same in reverse when coming down the hill, I will get tailgated and passed all the way down the boulevard doing 5 over. But when I get to 410 I have to pass them doing 10 under. Please explain that phenomena.

Actually, where snow on the roadway usually becomes an issue on US2 is right about where there are passing lanes, just pass Skykomish.  So I think the issue here is just people speeding.

There are always the hopeless jerks who are aggressive and wildly pass even though the line of cars is two miles long.  I kind of laugh at how hopeless these individuals are.  No way they significantly improve their drive time to where ever they need to be, but they take chances anyway.  I just try to stay out of their way.  You could never explain to them that if they just stayed put, that at most the delay to the pass would be 5 min. at most.  The distance from Baring to the pass is just not that far.

I do pass on occasion (which is not always so easy in the '93 subaru), but it is mostly to seek clear road ahead and not put up with the poor driving habits of some drivers ahead of me, such as braking at every turn in the road, etc.

It would help if people obeyed the "not delaying cars" law on the road and pull over and let people pass is they are the lead on a long train of cars.  However, I have to admit that I have seen many people do this over the years and have done so myself, even though I usually drive beyond the speed limit.

The same crew often also appoint themselves some kind of speed limit guardian angel or neignorhood watch - a "they shall not pass!" type attitude. Maybe they have internet chat boreds where they compare how many cars they can back up behind them and report in detail on the drivers who wound to the point of frustration dare pass them.

Where? I'm a little dense. If I'm just poking along under the limit I will pull over to let cars pass, if I'm going the limit or 5 over, most often, I feel no obligation to pull over unless there is a passing lane.
