Where I come from (New Jersey) lawyers are for weighty matters like advising you which county to bury the body in. I'll take my chances on my own on this one. I'm trying to convince a recent Seattle-area immigrant that the only way to stay sane in a Puget Sound winter is to take up backcountry skiing. I bid $85.

No lawyer required, just irs.gov. It appears that the tax deducation is available to the person who donated the stuff, not the person who bought it, unless the buyer overpays. Since in this case the auction price is a good way to determine fair market value, when you bid, think of Ron j and how, with each bid, you are increasing his tax deduction (assuming he itemizes).
This actually make total sense. If you could get a deduction from buying stuff from charitable organizations, sellers generally would be funnelling all of their stuff through a charitable reseller in order to promote the tax advantage.
I do see Ron's tortured path to suggesting that the buyer masquerade as the donator, or something. I suppose it doesn't matter who makes off with the tax receipt as long each sale generates only one.

3. You generally can deduct your cash contributions and the fair market value of most property you donate to a qualified organization. Special rules apply to several types of donated property, including clothing or household items, cars and boats.
4. If your contribution entitles you to receive merchandise, goods, or services in return – such as admission to a charity banquet or sporting event – you can deduct only the amount that exceeds the fair market value of the benefit received.

Travertine - Thanks for taking the time to look all that up for us.
As far as I'm concerned that's the final word on the matter unless someone else comes along refuting it or claiming higher authority
And just to be clear on my position, I have no intention of claiming the deduction so if the final bidder wants to ask Benj for a donation receipt, well... I think someone should get the deduction.
Ok, Lessee, here,
Who will bid $90 to help the Avalanche Center and at the same time get a classic set of pow skis?

Looks like our current bid is from jeff_s at $85.Where I come from (New Jersey) lawyers are for weighty matters like advising you which county to bury the body in. Is this a great community, or what??
My hat's off to all who have bid on this Avy Center benefit auction.
And a special thanks to this guy
Thanks to davidG we're now at 90 frogpelts raised for the Avy Center.
Don't forget folks, custom Ascension skins (including the skin bag) are included. I just checked all the existing screw holes and all are in good shape; good, hard, strong threads, none stripped out.
So for a deserving (not too handy with tools) buyer with a good attitude
who is intending to go with the dynafiddle binders, I may even be willing to mount up your own (buyer provided) Dynafits for you on these boards.
So who will bid $95?
