It seems perfectly fine to have discussions here on someone's decision to stop turning-all-year.
I, for one, don't turn all year because skiing is supposed to be fun, and being on a treadmill sort of makes it unfun for me. There is significant pressure to 'perform'inherent to any venture such as turns-all-year ... and gosh I used to have such bad performance anxiety until I joined that support group ... but anyway.
Scotsman, you have such a marvelous streak, it would be a shame to ruin it. This is like piano lessons, and I'm afraid it's just a bit too late to stop now. I'm sure you'll thank me in the long run.
Now get your ******* maps out and plan a ******* trip already!

1st, good call Marcus. Nip it in the bud. Saw the post and winced. I was guilty once and you tactfully stepped in. The interweb is full of choices and a place with honor and decorum is always an asset. There is another room starting in T is a place to let it all hang out.
2nd. TAY was my first port of call when the BC ski bug bit. Always thought of it as a place where kindred souls who even thought about turns all year could commune. A select few were actually able to make TAY . They are here as an asset to the community. Here for admiration, aspiration or condemnation depending on ones personal current status. There was a time that I myself was guilty (fanatical?) of tossing skis into the car to seek out April patches of roadside snow to ski on.
Who personifies a T-A-Yer? My personal criteria is some who plans, dreams and even schemes of Turns....All.... Year.

Cookie thanks for you post and advice to keep my streak alive and the spirit in which it was given but in all honesty, as Marcus noted, my initial post that was locked was a parody of Lowell in relation to the argument he and l and I got into over morality and extreme sports and my disgust at his implying ( by extension of logic) that people who took such risks where therefore immoral ( it seemed highly moralizing in a post about another persons death and very judgmental , at least to me). Additionally I took umbrage over his bemoaning the marketing and glamorization of extreme sports and the resulting" moral breakdown" and at the same time publish a web journal (NWMJ) that does exactly that. To me it reeked of hypocrisy.
You have to read it in conjunction with the solo climber dies thread to fully understand my attempt at satire.
However, that being said , I do intend to break my streak not because my love of ski touring is in any way diminishing, in fact it only continues to grow, but for me the months of August and September are just too cruel and I must divert my obsession to other activities( mountain biking) to be able to bear it.

My take. If you must ask someone "Why", you do not comprehend. I am me and you are not me. An unchallengeable quote from my dear daughter.

OK, this thread rings true for me...ending a streak. September will mark my 120th month of TAY. My goal has 'always' been 120....but a friend ended at 122 last year, no I feel the urge for 123. Nothing like being at least 10 years from a 'one up' by a buddy. But if I get to 123 it will be winter again with good snow, then I should proceed through to July, but if I do that then I'll only be 2 months from 132....repeat....repeat...repeat (or look at last 9 years)
Is this what is called a downward spiral?
